“I was merely making my way back to the Palais,” he answers, feigning ignorance.
A long bout of silence stretches between them, and all Neuvillette can do is watch as Furina’s eyes slowly begin to unfocus once more. The fight drains out of her the longer he hovers in her presence, and her posture slumps like a puppet with its strings cut loose.
Neuvillette tries to ignore how the sight tears violently at his heart.
