Jonathan makes it all of five steps before it all goes wrong.
Behind him, Will says, “Mike?”
Mike does not reply. Jonathan glances over his shoulder, mid-step, and pulls up short in confusion at what he sees. Mike is still by the van where the darkness is deepest, his white t-shirt dappled with darker shadows, standing stock-still. Unnervingly still. Stiller than Jonathan has ever seen him. No bouncing leg, no tapping finger, no nothing; he’s just standing there, staring down at his blood-covered hands in a faraway sort of fascination.
His wet blood-covered hands.
(or, jonathan's always known mike is willing to do a lot for his little brother. he just never understood exactly how much.)

Summary
The True Blue series celebrates my two favorite characters. I want to write them a thousand happy endings. This is my first.
A slow-burn, mostly canon-compliant Stranger Things novelization with a Byler endgame. Above all else, this is a love story told entirely through the POVs of Mike Wheeler and Will Byers. We remain rooted in their inner worlds — limited to their knowledge, thoughts, and feelings.
Every title is a different lyric pulled from Lucy Dacus’s Boygenius song "True Blue." Each season has its own through-line:
* Season 1: You can’t help but become the sun (Mike POV)
* Season 2: I remember who I am when I’m with you (Will POV)
* Season 3: You were happy, and I wasn’t surprised (Will POV)
* Season 4: I can’t hide from you like I hide from myself (Mike POV)
* Season 5: Your love is tried and true blue (Mike/Will alternating POV)Major rewrites are coming in Season 5, but for now, let's start from the top. Each episode will be its own chapter; each season its own work. Thanks for sticking with me.

Summary
“So, Will… you took out that demo with your mind?” Robin asked, in awe of Will. Mike clenched his jaw. Didn’t they have time to talk about that already? Back when they first got to the Squawk and couldn’t stop talking to each other?
“I mean…” Will started.
“Three. To be exact.” Mike interjected, locking eyes with Robin. He could see Will glance at him out of the corner of his eye.

A rewrite of Season 5 Volume 2 & 3 (started before Volume 2 released). And Mike Wheeler is extremely worried and protective of Will Byers.

“Up there,” Will said, glancing toward the sky. “If something goes wrong. If he takes over me and uses me—” He inhaled sharply. “Kill me."
As Mike’s fingers closed around Will’s arm, the skin felt unnaturally cool, the pulse beneath it slow and rhythmic—entirely unlike the frantic, nervous heartbeat Mike knew by heart. This was not Will.
