Baldur’s Gate is rebuilding, the companions are drifting back to their own lives, and Astarion is left with a victory he can’t stand in the sunlight to enjoy. Elowen chooses not to move on. Instead, she walks the road with him as another traveling companion, sharing tents, watch shifts, and late-night honesty.
What follows isn’t a grand prophetic quest, but a quieter, stubborn one: Elowen begins chasing half-whispers and forgotten lore about why the sun burns a vampire spawn who refused ascension. Ruins, odd priests, strange books, wrong questions in the wrong temples and little threads she calls “research” and he calls “madness,” even as he continues to follow her lead.
Afterdawn is the stretch of road where nothing huge seems to happen from the outside: campfires, small jobs, detours, close calls, and two people circling something they have no words for yet. Underneath, Elowen is pulling on something old and bright and dangerous. By the end, that thread is tight enough that it’s not going to let either of them go.

Summary
It isn’t weird if they both do it—that has been their sort of unspoken rule these past few years together.
After Astarion and Wyll each came clean about their own less than romantic reasons for sleeping together, Wyll suggests that maybe they would be better off as friends. That’s completely, totally fine with Astarion. Sure, he’s in love with the man, but it’s fine.
Their friendship starts to take a turn after Astarion learns how to transform into a bat, however. As a bat, he is soft, cute, helpless, and… he doesn’t hate that. As a bonus, Wyll also seems helpless to resist petting Astarion’s fluffy new fur.
Maybe this can be their new dynamic, then. By night, they will travel the Sword Coast as a pair of dashing adventurers. By day, Astarion will shrink himself down to sleep on Wyll’s chest and tell himself that this is enough.This is the “strangers to lovers to friends to friends-with-benefits-but-only-when-one-of-them-is-a-bat to lovers” Wyllstarion pet-play-adjacent semi-accidental BDSM fic you never knew you needed.

“Astarion,” Wyll chides gently. “You’re one of the city's heroes, you’ve come into a large fortune, own property, and your charm is considerable.” Astarion’s glare is withering, not the least bit mollified. “When you want it to be,” Wyll adds on, knowing that he’s poking the spawn.
“Why aren’t they hounding and tormenting you, then?” Astarion retorts, crossing his arms with a huff.
(The one where Astarion and Wyll pretend to date to get high society off their backs, OR five times Astarion asks to drink Wyll's blood and the one time he doesn't have to.)

Returning to Baldur's Gate (and a small cheap flat in the Lower City) Karlach recovers under the careful attentions of her lover, Wyll. There's only one problem: they've let Astarion stay with them. And though Astarion knows that this living arrangement must be temporary and the happy couple will get tired of his company soon enough, he finds himself growing attached to the little life they've made.
It doesn't help that he's madly in love with both of them. Or that they're all sharing a bed.

This is about a headcanon I wanted to explore through narrative fiction. About how it would feel for Astarion to be properly fed after 200 years of starvation - because I cannot even imagine that it would feel “normal” for him to be satiated, despite his vampiric inclinations and instincts to drink whenever blood is available, and despite the painful hunger. I don’t know if it makes sense in the end but oh well.
