Ren never imagined he would find such a place in another person, where he can just be himself without any expectations, or fear of rejection. The struggle arise when the safety of the heaven is compromised. Will he be able to keep that sense of normalcy with Dan Heng, or will the tides of fame drown the thing he holds most dear?

Yusuf swallowed. The name felt heavy on his tongue, and his heart skipped a beat.
“Ah,” Yusuf’s baba said solemnly. “I think it is safe to assume that your worst enemy goes by the name of Nicolò. I will pray to Allah that he may merely be someone you meet on a trade trip across the sea, and that this name does not forebode anything more sinister.”
Yusuf nodded, and he let his baba turn over his right arm carefully towards the light, so they could read the name written there.
“Now, my son,” Yusuf’s baba said in a joyful tone, “let us see if we know your beautiful soulmate already, or if you will have to be patient a little longer.”
The rosy light of dawn crept through the windows, and neither his baba nor Yusuf had any trouble reading his Mark. For on Yusuf’s right arm, in the same bold black letters, stood the name again.

The car came to a stop with screeching brakes. Merlin took a sharp breath, felt a panic bubble just beneath the surface of the composed trained doctor he was supposed to be, and reached for the door handle to get out and assess the situation when a sharp, calculated movement made him halt and stare disbelievingly through the windshield.
He only realised then that it was severely cracked, probably only a gust of wind away from breaking. When he refocused his attention to the person on his engine hood, he didn’t believe his eyes. Said person, a man, wasn’t flung across the hood anymore but standing in front of his car, dramatically illuminated by the headlight’s of Merlin’s truck.
He was brushing off his coat and then quickly looked up, like acknowledging Merlin’s presence was nothing but an afterthought to him. Merlin caught his gaze and he froze. He felt his body shut down while his mind raced, borderlining a nervous breakdown somewhere between the shock of hitting someone and suddenly staring into the eyes of a memory he had tried to forget for too long.
Blood red eyes were staring back at him and they made his heart race with a dangerous mixture of careful hope and pure adrenaline.

It is in the middle of the night after a long day filled with endless discussions with his manservant that Arthur lies awake. He lies in his dark room, the fire long burnt out, but his thoughts won't calm down.
Arthur had really been trying to protect Merlin, just this once. But Merlin absolutely insisted on finding out what was going on and then on accompanying Arthur.
The defiance and loyalty Merlin shows over and over again cause a warm, comforting feeling in Arthur's stomach which is quickly chased away by a dry throat and a tingling sensation running up and down his spine whenever he thinks about his manservant for too long.
Arthur gets up at some point and lights up a candle. He takes a look in the mirror and can't find anything that has changed in his appearance while his emotions are a total mess.
