This wasn’t true, but her parents would say that to each other: I can’t wait for spring, and Winter is so lousy, isn’t it? and other canned phrases to their neighbors and to the store clerks, to anyone really. Their friends’ faces would light up with relief, and respond, Yes, me too!
Why relief? Tome couldn't crack this type of encrypted small talk, a code spoken between adults. Maybe she was the only one who didn’t understand, but she tried it on for size regardless. It felt sophisticated.

Short fun one-shots for Serirei week 2022:
Day 1: Serizawa discovers that awful memoir Reigen had written in the anime season 1 OVA.
Day 2: Reigen tutors Serizawa in the ways of fine cuisine, because he himself has a refined palate. But does he? Does he?
Day 3: Reigen thinks a therapy dog would be great to have at an exorcism.
Day 4: Serizawa has a bad time in his space travels.
Day 5: Reigen takes Serizawa to his first concert and mishears the band name.
Day 6: Tome stirs the pot for the happy couple.
Day 7: Reigen loses an embarrassing memento and searches for it before Serizawa can find it. -

Summary
The Divine Tree rules over Seasoning City. Buildings are crumbling. The trains out of town have stopped running. It’s getting harder to find food that isn’t made from the Tree. No one cares. Everyone gathers around the broccoli at sunset to pray. Everyone acts so happy.
Except Takane Tsubomi, who, it turns out, gets bored of cult doctrine the same way she gets bored of watching dogs float. Tsubomi doesn’t know what you’re supposed to do when your city’s been taken over by a giant vegetable with the power to make everyone adore it, but surely there must be someone out there who does, which is why she finds herself skipping tennis club and picking her way through the root-covered streets to the only spiritual consulting office she can find that’s still taking appointments.

And then we can never talk about any of this again. Please,” Ritsu forces out again, when Teru says nothing, only listens, watching him with that same mild, sociable interest. “Before it gets worse. Before anything… happens.”
“What’s in it for me?” asks Teru.
