And those people over there, they don’t know anything other than saving lives; that’s what hospitals are all about. But you and me, people like us, we know the truth. FD and I are gonna be out there having to choose who can be saved and who can’t. We’re the first line. Then you and your team are going to be choosing who could actually survive long enough to get to the hospital because you see death every day. You know what will kill someone.” She threw on her helmet and closed up her jacket. “Then, only after we’ve done the hard part, are we going to deliver bodies to them. I don’t need any of them freezing up because they’re seeing more death than life.” Then like the drop of a hat the lieutenant’s entire demeanor shifted back. She was relaxed. “They said you were the best.” Cheeky almost, and without a doubt cocky. “So go be the best Dr. Isles. I got people to save.” She tossed Maura a challenging smirk and turned jogging towards carnage.
The universe seems dedicated to pushing Maura Isles and the cocky lieutenant firefighter Jane Rizzoli together after a first encounter at a major city accident.
