Summary
People throw all sorts of things into the sea. Precious things, trinkets, childhood memories, or even family heirlooms. They say that they more or less believe in it and even joke about it, yet they all embrace the superstitions of this small seaside village. Because it's how it's always been. Because their grandmother used to do it. Because they once addressed their prayers to the Sea Spirits and thought they were heard.
Erwin doesn't believe any of this. There' s the sand, there' s the ocean, the rhythm of the seasons and the shells that are better picked at certain times of the year. The world around them relies on certainly subtle and complex logic and mechanisms, all of which it is impossible to know everything, but the Sea is the sea, no capital letter, and people are superstitious creatures.

Summary
Stuck in the monotonous repetition of daily life between squat houses and shitty jobs, Levi is kept afloat by Isabel and Farlan and the necessity of moving forward. With Kenny unable to support him, Levi has to make it on his own, somehow.
But then, he meets Erwin. Erwin, a well-meaning yet unrealistic humanitarian who doesn't quite understand why Levi finds him so unbearable. Erwin, a man who is unafraid to help others and express his loud opinions, even when nobody asked for them.
So when Levi discovers that Erwin and his friends are regulars at his new job, he finds himself increasingly involved in their lives whether he likes it or not. But he may enjoy the recurrent banter he shares with Blondie more than he's willing to admit.

Erwin est un homme marié, père de deux petites filles, qui va à l'église tous les dimanche. Ses voisins et ses collègues le tiennent en haute estime, et il mène une carrière d'enquêteur sans histoires au fin fond du sud de la Louisiane. Cette vie tranquille bascule le jour où il fait la connaissance du nouveau collègue avec qui il va devoir faire équipe sur le terrain, un certain Levi. D'un tempérament taiseux et maussade, il se révèle être un partenaire étonnant. C'est alors que sont découverts, les uns après les autres, des cadavres mis en scène de façon macabre. Levi semble toujours avoir une longueur d'avance et, alors que cela pourrait lui coûter sa carrière et sa famille, Erwin décide de le suivre ainsi que son instinct, et ce peu importe le prix à payer.
