Something was wrong with Sam, he knew it but also had no idea what it was. He had just returned from Edora and then the “other mission”. Now he was back and ready to move forward. But there was one problem: his 2IC wasn’t with him. Sure she was there, but only physically. She was avoiding him, not engaging. Jack felt the loss every day. Now he had to figure out both what was wrong and how to get to her. Sam, on the other hand, couldn’t tell. If she bore her soul and told him the real reason he would know how she felt about him. That alone could end her career, and if he didn’t return the sentiment, it could end much more. Nope, she needed to get over this and him all by herself. Which brings on the next problem, Jack wasn't willing to let it, or her go

Inspired by a wonderful fic by WednesdayGilfillian (link in notes), in which Shelagh goes to Scotland after her tb treatment, instead of returning to Poplar straight away. I love the idea of Shelagh finding herself, growing stronger, before finding a new life with Patrick. I basically took that idea and worked out my own story around it.
Safe to say this is fairly AU. I messed with timelines, as well, to make it work for me. In short: another way for Patrick and Shelagh to fall in love, get engaged, married, etc.
