Officer Wickham snapped to attention, face turning red as the words finally spilled out of them. “During a routine patrol, we found your daughters in one of the former mining districts - a dangerous and restricted area - operating experimental tech without proper licensing.”
A gale of various emotions raced through Caitlyn simultaneously, nearly taking her off her feet with the force of it all. The first concern managed its way out first. “Are they alright?”
Wickham nodded quickly. “No injuries, Ma’am. But they are being detained now at the station. I’m sorry, of course, but it’s protocol no matter who - ,”
Caitlyn shook her head, cutting him off as she squeezed her eye shut and pinched the bridge of her nose. Of course asking the two of them to behave themselves with total freedom to escape the manor had been too hefty of a request. And of course they would have picked the most dangerous way to completely ignore said request. And of course it was the fucking hoverboards --

“That’s always been there,” Caitlyn deadpans, trying not to flush under the realisation of how frivolous it is.
“And you didn’t tell me?”
“Precisely because I knew you’d be insufferable about it.”
Vi’s grin sharpens. “Scared I might get my fill of cupcake elsewhere?”

From the time Vi was young, growing up with a severe scarcity of food, to her time in prison where food was both a reward and punishment, to her days spent in the Kiramman mansion with more food than she could ever eat, Vi’s always struggled with food; with her weight, well, her appearance more specifically, vain shit, she never had the luxury of obsessing over when every scrap of food mattered and never stuck around in her hips anyway.
Over the years, Vi’s put in so much work unlearning harmful habits and repairing her relationship with food. Sometimes she relapses and gets stuck in old ways, but, really, she’s doing so much better now.
Her unexpected pregnancy throws a wrench in her recovery.
