    Summary

Wolfwood’s on him before it’s closed all the way. Vash is so—Wolfwood doesn’t want to call him easy, would never, because he isn’t, naturally. Vash is the most elusive person he knows, physically and emotionally, and that Wolfwood knows, nobody in their university has ever come close to standing where Wolfwood is standing right now.

But at the same time he is easy. Because he laughs and hooks his arms over Wolfwood’s neck, and when Wolfwood crowds in to kiss him his mouth falls open, and it’s his soft lips and pointy teeth, his tongue sliding beneath Wolfwood’s, allowing him in. So easy, to take from, to want. It’s absurd. Wolfwood is harder than he’s ever been in his goddamn life.

“What do you,” Wolfwood sort of fumbles, because he’s—fuck, he’s asked, but he’s never asked someone like Vash. Someone he likes as much as Vash. “How do you want to—?”

“Whatever you want,” Vash says. He’s—mellow. Well, easy.

    Summary

Nicholas D. Wolfwood is hardly what one would call a connoisseur of literature. As far as he’s concerned, it sorts itself nicely into three buckets: smart books, scripture, and drivel. He avoids the first on principle, finds himself unwillingly dragged through the second more often than not, and dabbles in the third if the fancy strikes.

The book that’s caught his eye presents a conundrum he wasn’t prepared to confront at 10 AM on a bright, already-roasting Tuesday morning. He’s been left unsupervised in a general store while Vash takes care of some do-gooder something or other, and his boredom had him gravitating to the rack of double-dime novels tucked in the back corner. The drivel selection is top-tier. Most of the books he can open at random and land on something both intriguingly salacious and horrendously written, and Wolfwood has spent a solid fifteen minutes gleefully paging through paperbacks with covers featuring washboard abs and heaving bosoms before he spots the book that’s going to ruin his life.

    Summary

“You’re right,” Wolfwood concedes reluctantly, “least we ain’t sick. God damnit.” He claps his hand over his eyes. “Just, don’t—I can’t—you can’t count on me to carry us through this. I’m not—” His lower lip wobbles, and he swallows, hard. “I’m no good with babies.”

Vash is silent after that. Wolfwood doesn’t dare to open his eyes and try and gauge his expression. It’s not like Vash is perfectly intuitive all the time, but he has his moments, and sometimes it feels like he can cut through Wolfwood with a single glance. It’s a quality that Wolfwood has admired in him, from time to time, but right now, he’s not sure he could take it.

“...Should we take her back?” Vash whispers. “If you really think we should—”

“No,” Wolfwood cuts him off, probably too loud, “I said no.”

    Summary

But those days have long since passed. Now, Mydei sleeps in the few intervening periods his body allows without any account of the blazing sun overhead. He learned, as with many things in Okhema, to take what little grace the world had left to give without question.

After their final confrontation with Nikador, Mydei sleeps longer than ever before.

Mydei and Phainon spend one final morning together.
