Summary
He’s seen Buck with kids, of course. Buck is, truly, just the best with kids, and this isn’t news to Eddie.
What is news to Eddie, though, is how Buck looks with a whole gaggle of small children fawning at his feet. They don’t even come up to his knees, because Buck’s legs are, unfortunately, approximately five miles long. Half of them are running around him in circles, a few of them are sitting in the grass picking dandelions, and Jee and one other toddler have secured themselves to Buck’s legs like two koalas. Buck is grinning down at them and laughing while still keeping an eye on those running around, and Eddie very suddenly feels like he needs to get down on one knee and propose.

Summary
Maybe it’s the thinning oxygen in the building affecting his control over his brain-to-mouth filter, or maybe it’s the fact that he’s already locked in on the task at hand, but Eddie just says it. Says it like it’s the most casual thing in the world. Says it like it’s not the first time one of them has said it since they’ve been together. Says it while he’s not even looking at Buck.

Summary
“Hey Chim,” he starts, sidling up to Chimney one morning at the fire station, “have you noticed something weird about Buck’s socks?” Eddie takes a sip of his coffee before looking over to the man next to him.
Chimney looks at him as if he’s grown another head.
“His socks?” he asks in bewilderment.
Eddie nods. “His socks.” He doesn’t elaborate further.
“Well…he wears them. Like all the time. But that’s not that weird?” Chim says, still clearly not sure what Eddie wants from him.
“You haven’t noticed…anything else?” Eddie takes another sip of coffee from his mug. He’s not going to give anything away—he wants to see if anyone else has noticed what he thinks he’s noticed, completely on their own, with no outside influence.
“...No?” Chimney replies, almost as if it’s a question. “I really don’t make a habit of looking at Buck’s feet, man.”
or; Buck has something particular going on with his socks. Instead of asking him about it, Eddie decides to do a little experiment.

Summary
Buck and Eddie meet at a bar before Eddie's first shift at the 118. It will change everything and absolutely nothing.

“Fuck,” Buck pushes his empty water cup away. “Fuck, I am so stupid.” He drops his forehead to the bar, which is a definite red flag to the bartender who has already been eyeing him suspiciously. “I told her I’d water her plants. She left me her keys. Fuck.”
“You were gonna water her plants while she slept with other guys?” Eddie’s voice is incredulous. Buck imagines his face is equally incredulous, probably pitying and no doubt in disbelief that someone could be so goddamn dumb.
And somehow, Buck can’t help but laugh. His face stretches into what is probably the first smile since he found out Abby was leaving. “She has a lot of them,” Buck defends, finally picking his head back up.
Eddie is smiling too, wide and bright. His canine teeth, a stark and sharp contrast from the rest of his teeth, flash in the low bar lights.

“How can you be so bad at this?”
He knew it was meant as a sort of joke. But it still felt like he was being flayed open. Like someone was actually looking inside a door he’s kept closed for years. Avoiding it like the plague.
He just looks at Ravi, feeling like a deer caught in headlights. Hoping that whatever expression on his face conveys more of I was married at the age of 19 out of obligation after an unexpected pregnancy! instead of because I don’t think I like women and I’m terrified of that revelation at the age of 33.
“Look I’m going to go talk to her, seed the ground.” Buck says, already starting to move past Eddie.or; Ravi clocks Eddie while at the club, so he takes him to a bar.
