Summary
Ilya feels okay until he gets off the plane, and sees Shane's text message with his license plate number, so he can find the car, and his stomach flips. This is it. This is really happening. For the next two weeks, he and Shane Hollander will be in the same place at the same time. They have never spent so much time together, not even close. Ilya wonders if they will get sick of each other after a few days, and he will leave early, join Svetlana in Russia as he had planned. He almost hopes that Hollander drives him crazy. It would be easier.

This is what he tries to tell himself when he thinks about Shane Hollander: It's better that they are nothing. He should have never started up again with Hollander after the Olympics, should never have let Hollander into his room in Las Vegas. He would be over this by now. He would be done. Now, he does not know how long it will take, not with having to see Hollander over and over again, games, awards, interviews, fucking commercials. Summary
For the next two years, this is how it works between Ilya and Shane Hollander: they text, and whenever they find themselves in the same geographic location, they meet, they fuck. It becomes a routine, although it is never boring. Ilya learns that Hollander does actually live in the condo in Montreal, its sterile nature the result of a cleaning service and Hollander's own particular nature. He learns that when Hollander wins he is more demanding in bed, and when he loses, he is more willing. He learns that Hollander is funnier via text than he thought, but not sexier.
Ilya should be happy. He has never had a regular thing like this with a man. He never thought it would be possible. And he likes it, he does, especially when Hollander is spread out on the bed in front of him, but.

Ilya has been with several other men in these last years, in Russia, where everyone understands the importance of the secret they are keeping, and he thinks probably Hollander has found someone else to experiment with. Why wouldn't he? Hot, famous, rich guy like him? It makes sense.

He is attractive in the way that many young men are attractive, his face not yet hardened by the work of the real world, and he seems nervous to be out here, nervous to be seen with Ilya. Because Ilya has been forced to learn everything about Hollander, Ilya knows that Hollander is older than him, not much, a few weeks. But looking at him, Ilya feels weary and old. He hates that.
