The ED team shuffles out, Whitaker and Dr. Robby taking up the rear. Dr. Robby stops him with a hand on Whitaker’s waist, there and gone. “Really,” he says low, directly into his ear, beard scratching his cartilage, “that was amazing. You didn’t waste any time starting compressions. That probably saved that baby’s life. You saved that baby’s life.”
The praise goes to his head, suffusing him with endorphins. “Thank you, Dad.” And he promptly wants to crawl out of his skin and slither down the drain with the after birth slop.

Even his favorite drink betrays him. Each tongue flick to taste it just zeroes in on Wolf, that smell of his. So intoxicating that Snake feels light headed. Snake, desperate and debauched Snake, dares to imagine Wolf drinking with him. Those pretty eyes all bright and sweet tasting liqueur in his claws. It'd be so tempting to drag Wolf close, flick his tongue and taste those drops of alcohol that always get on the fur of his chin.
He's playing a dangerous game. He's horrible, barely balancing, wanting so bad to just tip it over. He can feel it in his scales and veins.
Wolf is the one to tilt it.
