Summary
In the entrance of their small cave, a vast shadow in the unlit gloom, Zircon lifts her head as First Aid rouses, stricken with an unfamiliar, agitated restlessness that isn't his own.
The hour is earlier than their usual waking, only the thinnest, most watery light penetrating the darkness. The linens below him are body-warm, but the air outside his bedding has a distinct chill to it that speaks of a winter soon to come.
First Aid doesn't quite fit in with the other dragonriders. As a Healer, his skills are more useful on the ground, even after Impressing his green dragon, but he can't hide from the inevitable.

Summary
The deep ocean is dangerous for more than one reason. First Aid has been foraging for crystal and copper out in the caverns that dot the upper rim of the bathypleagic zone before, but he's never been this far down into the colder water below the rim of the continental shelf. He checks his rough map a dozen times over before slipping down between two jutting outcroppings. The light quickly begins to grow so thin and weak that his optics have to recalibrate.
A critical shipment of manganese is delayed and First Aid's patient can't wait, so he takes matters into his own hands. First Aid doesn't expect to meet someone out in the deep waters.

Summary
Blurr doesn’t know what his agent was thinking, sending him to a run down place like this. He’s supposed to be meeting a reputable Iaconian reporter to do a spotlight interview meant to run in advance of the next Ibex Cup, not griming up his paint job slumming it in some back alley studio a whole klik outside polity limits.
Blurr can't afford any more bad press before the next Ibex Cup or he’ll be in trouble with sponsors he doesn't even want in the first place. His agent must have a fragged up sense of humor sending him out for an interview with a mech like Blaster.

Summary
First Aid's footfalls land heavily on the packed sand of the arena, kicking up clouds of microparticulates. He pauses at the sound of falling sand, tense, but his audials only register the sound of his own frame and occasional whistle of wind.
For the last thirty-nine minutes he's been winding his way through the endless canyons of the Rust Divide that serve as the contest grounds. He's deep into the arena and the rock face on either side has grown immensely steep, the red sandstone walls nearly vertical in places. The distant chatter of the announcers and the crowd at the staging ground fell away long ago.
The thrill of the chase is almost as good as the thrill of being caught. Almost.
