He still hasn't told Newt about what happened that night. About the kiss that Teresa gave him. Considering everything they've been through and everything they stand to face, telling him about it should be the lowest item on his list of worries right now. He certainly doesn't feel guilty for keeping it a secret from any of the other Gladers. It's only with Newt that it really feels that way - like a secret. Like the act of withholding it from him is, in some way, a betrayal.

“No. No, Mike, can you hear me?” He nods, ever so slightly. It’s enough for Will. If he’s dying— if these are truly the last words that will ever be spoken between them— there’s only one thing he can say. “I love you. I’m in love with you, Mike, please. You can’t go. I love you so much,” Will whispers, cradling his body to his chest.

Will confesses his feelings as Mike takes his last breaths— and then Mike decides to be a stubborn asshole about it and survives. Will is left to deal with the aftermath of his choice, navigating an awkward new friendship.

Summary
Mike thinks back to the painting Will gave him, rolled up and placed carefully in his dresser drawer, because for some reason it felt too wrong to hang it up on the walls with everything else. Too intimate. Like Will had made it for his eyes only. Or, apparently as everyone else thought, some mystery lover in California. And then he thinks about Will dozing off on his bed, and saying I think I’m in love with you all soft and slowed down from the inertia of sleep, and that’s right about when Mike starts to feel seriously lightheaded. He leans back against his bed and focuses very hard on taking deep, even breaths.
Mike contemplates his feelings for Will Byers, partakes in a concerning amount of swooning, and learns to drive. Sort of.

Summary
“I feel like you used to tell me things,” Mike says.
Will looks away from his Walkman, back to Mike. It’s almost startling, finding him already looking back. “I – tell you things,” he replies, a little awkwardly. He barely gets through the sentence before Mike is already shaking his head.
"No,” he frowns, “you – you used to tell me things. Like, stuff you wouldn’t tell everyone else.” He seems conflicted, and he looks away. “Stuff just between us.”
Will doesn’t know where to begin.
Will tries to navigate a conversation with a freshly-broken-up-with Mike.
