Today was the worst day of Will Byers life.
Actually, that was a lie.
Will has had significantly worse days than today, but that didn’t mean that it didn’t feel like the worst day of his life.
Right now he felt like he had no one. His mom and brother were both at work, Dustin was nowhere to be found, Max and El were probably at their houses, and Mike and Lucas had been ignoring his existence pretty much all day.Or: Stranger Things season 3 AU where Will meets a certain curly-haired Dungeon Master inside the Starcourt Mall and gets some advice about friendship.

Summary
A stranger things rewrite of seasons 3-5. Focuses on Will as the primary main character and centers his self-acceptance arc and powers much earlier in the story. Will's friendship with Max & Jane being developed earlier and being much more central to the story. Byler get together at the end of season three and are an established couple for the rest of the story. The plot will generally follow the one in the show until season five, where there will be changes made to fix plot holes and hopefully provide a more satisfactory conclusion. The goal for Jane's character is to allow her to develop her interests and identity outside of a relationship, and prove that she can live a happy life despite all the pain she has went through. The first shadow and all the lore we learn about in the play will play a major part in the rewrite of season five and the fic during the 18 month timeskip.

2. Keep You With Me (11 chapters, season 4)
3. Shrouded Memory (10 chapters, 18 months between seasons 4 & 5 + the first shadow)

Summary
“And he sees…” Will swallowed hard, his throat burning, like the word itself might tear him open as it passed.
“My secrets.”
Mike’s face filled his mind—familiar, safe, devastating. Loving him had always felt like breathing: automatic, constant, something his body learned before his mind ever caught up. It never asked permission. It never paused to consider whether it would be returned. It simply existed, as natural and necessary as air.
And like breathing underwater, it hurt.
It always had.
Every inhale burned. Every second stretched longer than the last. But still, Will never swam up. Never reached for the surface. He stayed where he was, lungs aching, chest screaming, choosing the quiet certainty of drowning over the terror of letting go. Love, for him, had never been about survival. It had been about endurance.
Love, Will thought, could be a blessing and a curse at the same time.

Summary
Will opens the fridge with a small pop of the door seal, and reaches in to grab two Gatorade bottles off the top shelf; yellow for himself, and orange for Mike. The glass bottles clink against one another as he passes one to Mike. As he goes to take the offered bottle from Will, it slips between their fingers and shatters loudly across the linoleum; orange liquid splashing both of their pants. Immediately, Will tenses. They hear Lonnie startle awake with a grunt from the living room. Will looks towards Mike with fear plastered across his face, a fear that gives Mike pause.
