Edmund snorted softly, and Susan gave him a pointed look that quieted him at once. Tom reached for a biscuit, feeling oddly compelled to participate in this strange little ritual of generosity. It was alien to him—this easy, unquestioning kindness—but he wanted to accept it if only to understand what made these people so different.
As the conversation turned to lighter topics—the garden, Lucy’s plans for Hogwarts, and Peter’s summer projects—Tom remained quiet, observing them all with the sharp eyes of a predator sizing up his surroundings. This house was nothing like the orphanage. It was not grand or luxurious, but it had something far rarer: warmth.
And though he would never admit it aloud, it unsettled him more than he cared to say.

Summary
The days following Edmund’s summer with the Professor were fraught with strangeness. He recalled owls appearing at all hours of the day at the Professor’s house and curiously wondered if they were the same types of owls that had brought him his letter.
With the letter followed the Other Professor—a stranger of Narnia, Archenland, and Calormen, and yet had tales as fantastical as those that Edmund or his siblings could weave. The Other Professor cast an unerring eye upon him as if able to detect that Edmund wasn’t what he seemed, that he had lived another fifteen years in another world.

Scrawling blue and yellow neon text above the red basement door told Dedue the place was called Echo and he found himself walking down the steps built right into the alley before he even realised it. From his position on the small landing with a hand on the knob, Dedue could feel the warm, deep notes of a bass vibrating the metal door and the sharp, melodic notes of a chorus of brass instruments luring him in closer. The door was barely open an inch when he heard the smoothest voice he'd ever heard, the words dripping like honey, slow and sweet into his ears and beckoning him inside to the smokey room.

"Sometime after the eldests twenty-fifth birthday" was almost as generic as it could get when it could mean a month, or year, or decade after. Felix didn't think about it much. Especially wasn't thinking about how Sylvain's twenty-fifth birthday just recently passed and he isn't even sure if that idiot is alive or not as they march for Enbarr.
