Happy Birthday Admiral Janeway: Voyagers' Rest by Loopdeloup

Summary
“Voyagers’ Rest?” Admiral Janeway discretely wiped at her eyes.
Stupidly, she hadn’t suspected anything at all when Tuvok put in a formal request for her to attend a medical appointment with him. On her birthday. But Vulcans were not big on birthdays, and she hadn't given it a single thought.

Summary
He wasn’t expecting this.
He’d been feeling an odd anxiety over coming back together again with all his Voyager family. In particular, he’d felt an odd ambivalence about finally seeing Kathryn again, out of uniform, out of the confines of their long professional relationship, with nothing between them anymore but the strangeness of their recent estrangement, and wondering what is to follow, what remains now they’d moved on.
He thought he'd contemplated all possible ways their meeting could go.
But he never expected this.

Summary
The lights are so low and rich that all colours seem especially intense: deep velvety greens, glowing golds and jewel-bright sapphires, magnificent magentas, flaming auburns, vibrant crimson reds.
A warm breeze gently sways through the lush vegetation surrounding the little courtyard and the curiously stirring bass-heavy music favoured by the Zhuma floats out from the ballroom as Chakotay gazes down on the woman in his arms, feeling his heart might burst under such a confused onslaught of conflicting emotions

Summary
It turns out he has a special flair for birthdays.
Because of course he does.
There is a reason for it, but Kathryn doesn't find out about that until much later.

Summary
Getting back to the Alpha Quadrant has been their goal practically from the moment they teamed up.
But on attaining the goal, they find that indeed all that glitters is not necessarily gold, and on finally getting there, they've lost the most precious things they'd found on their journey.
First they seperately wallowed in despair in their different ways.
But now Janeway shows up unexpectedly on Chakotay's doorstep, barefoot, covered in golden glitter, oh so very angry, and determined to work this out, one way or another.
Now watch out!

Summary
Ignoring the people crowding around the doorway, ignoring the soft calls and murmured comments following in their wake, they push their way out into the night, laughing.
Kathryn Janeway is elegant and carefree in a midnight-blue dress of a fabric artfully suggestive of a starry sky, a floaty wrap in the same material trailing behind as the tall man in front of her pulls her along. “Come on, Kathryn! That was more than enough time spent in that stuffy Starfleet do. We are going to have to hurry if we want to catch up with the others and get enough dancing in!”

Summary
You are exhausted. You have never been so tired. You’ve been getting by on almost no sleep at all for days and weeks and maybe even months and years by now, who can keep track?
You have never spent so much of the day fantasizing about finally, finally making it into your bed.
But once you finally there, it is no good. You are too tired by now to even sleep. You have forgotten how. You spend a long time lying there. Trying to get comfortable. Turning one way. Tossing the other. Sitting up to grapple with your pillows, trying to tame them into *just right*.

I need you closer... Yes! That’s it!... No, a little closer... Closer.... Now relax into it. Relax! No reason to be so uptight. No command protocols here. Mmmm. That’s great. Beautiful. Oh, so beautiful.

Summary
From the minute of their first meeting, it is there. The chemistry.
He is familiar with this. The type of women who tend to be attracted to him have always tended to come on strong, being quick to show their interest, and quicker still to follow up on it.
He feels the signs there with her from the first. First meeting on the bridge of her ship, she is glorious with battle-fire, her eyes, ablaze with adrenaline, flicking down to his mouth, over his body in a visceral challenge.

Summary
It has to be said, none of this---none of this---was a good idea. Starting with you thinking you deserve to go into command training. Starting from there.
Yes, you’re good at what you do. But is what you do good?
Oh, Janeway. What have you done this time?
-----
Once her battle-fire bravado has burned out and her Captain Courageous has abandoned ship, Janeway gives herself her customary post-crisis dressing down. -

Summary
He has perceived it can not be put off any longer.
It is not the first time. Most likely it will not be the last.
In his several years of close collaboration with Janeway, he has had to have some version of this talk on a number of occasions. But here, decades of light years away from respite, and with no possibility of his preferred tactic of making a quick switch of staff before Janeway can even notice the problem, it is more vital than ever that this talk achieve the objective as rapidly and painlessly as possible, before these frail humans fall too deeply into the flaws of their humanity for rescue.

Summary
Sitting across the table from you. Once again. Alone with you. Just you and I.
Talking to you. Looking at my fingertips on the stem of my glass as I think of what to talk about, something light, relaxing. You deserve some time away from it all.
Talking to you, but getting distracted by how much I like the sound of your voice, your laugh.

Summary
It didn't seem like the offer to get repairs and maintenance done along with some quality shore leave could be more ideal. All that was requested in return was that they attend a farewell banquet for Captain Janeway, followed by a photo opportunity.
In retrospect, they should have known that in the Delta Quadrant anything that seems too good to be true is almost certainly exactly that.

Summary
It comes upon them with very little warning, after an ordinary dinner, in an ordinary week. If anything, things have been unusually sedate. The usual banter. The usual flirting. The safety of their usual taboos.
There is no particular catalyst. But even the slowest drip will eventually make a glass overrun.

Summary
She had said to him, “Commander, you and I have the same problem. I think it makes sense to try and solve it together, don’t you?”
From the very first moment, she just expects him to fall in behind her, like he’s on her team, like he’s always been on her team.
And, from the very first moment, he just does. He can’t articulate why. Even to himself.
