Summary
Neytiri leaned in until her forehead was resting against Jake’s, her mate closing her eyes and inhaling her scent the second she was close enough. Slowly, Jake’s memories of his dream replayed in their joined minds, letting Neytiri see for herself what Jake couldn't explain with words.
What Neytiri saw made her heart melt. It was Jake standing in the middle of the forest, near the water stream they always go to with Kiri and Neteyam, with their baby boy in his arms. He was looking up at his father and trying to smile, his small mouth pulling up into a wonky grin, and Jake was looking at him with so much love and adoration in his eyes.
“Welcome home, Lo’ak. Your mama and papa love you so much, sweet boy.”

“You are now a recombinant, corporal; the only reason the powers deemed reasonable to bring you back despite your treason is because of your knowledge on the Na’vi. You will obey to Colonel Quaritch. If you fail, you’re dead.”

His mother’s voice sounded far away but close at the same time. He hadn’t thought of her in years. Or well, the other Jake hadn’t.

Fike grabs Jake’s face and tilts it so they’re looking at each other eye-to-eye. “Listen here, Jakey. Coupla ground rules for ya; You bite, you kick, you scratch, you do anything even slightly stupid, we take it out on your kid here.”
Jake’s eyes widened slightly, gaze flickering over to Lo’ak.
He’s met with an expression of absolute despair.
“Dad, don’t do it,” Lo’ak whispers. “It’s ok, I can deal with it.”
Jake’s heart twists.
Fike grins, seeing the agony in Jake’s eyes. “Dunno if you’re gonna get a father’s day card if you lose two sons, Sully.”
Jake’s jaw clenches, but he nods, barely visible.
It’s a defeat that makes a hole of shame burn into Jake’s chest.
