Summary
His home is such a haunted thing.
It is difficult now for even him to see the value remaining.
The purpose had been safety. A place for him to exist, to be free, to be alive. A place to teach the way he wanted, to who he wanted.
It had done all of that and more, now a tomb of treasures crafted by him that would never see the light of day. Beautiful weapons, deadly and perfect, locked deep into a sanctum beneath the castle where he hopes they will never find a hand to wield them.
It is a strange thing. To become a ghost when your heart still beats.

Summary
Zuko’s arms are locked tight around himself, shaking, breath snagging against Sokka’s chest. “Why are you being so nice to me?” he whispers, voice all frayed edges.
Sokka just kisses the corner of his mouth, soft like forgiveness. “Because I love you. And I like being nice to you.”
or, Zuko doesn’t know how to be touched without flinching, doesn’t know what to do with gentleness that asks for nothing back. But Sokka holds him like something sacred—cleans him up, keeps him warm, kisses the trembling out of his spine. Love doesn’t have to be earned here. Not anymore.

Summary
Summer is a different sort of beast in the Fire Nation.
Zuko hadn’t really noticed it when he was young, only that the oppressive heat was a constant every year, but it wasn’t until he had started to travel that he understood the difference.
Other nations did have the change of season, they did have the temperature rise and the humidity spike, but not like this.
The sticky, inescapable waves of heat that last weeks at a time, and make even breathing feel like an effort. The burning heat of the sun soaking into every building and stone pathway, and continuing to radiate it back even at night.
Zuko is at least still used to it, even if it is unpleasant.
His husband is not.
Or: Zuko helps his husband cool off, and then very much does the exact opposite.

Suki’s voice sounds so far away it feels like Sokka is underwater, but opening his eyes reveals she is exactly where he last saw her, sprawled in a comfortable chair only a few feet away.
Her grin is a wolven thing, head cocked to the side as her gaze rakes him. “I go into the city for one morning, and you two decide to do this? I swear.”
Or: Sokka and Zuko have a friendly competition, that somehow Suki wins. (as she should)

It starts as a thought.
A little stray thing catching the light of his mind while they both catch their breath. Sokka is practically boneless against him, cheek resting against Zuko’s belly with his eyes closed as his chest heaves.
Zuko smiles down at his husband, managing to get a hand to obey enough to run his fingers through the sweat damp hair and stroke a soothing thumb into his temple. He earns a soft groan at the touch, and a slit of blue appearing between lashes. “Well. That was impressive.”
OR Zukka's journey through sexual exploration, leading up to Zuko buying a strap to absolutely rail his husband with.

Summary
When Sokka goes on a lone trip into an Earth Kingdom town to find supplies, he doesn't expect to face the hatred of the locals as a request for rice leads to an accusation of theft. Arrested by Earth Kingdom soldiers for a crime he didn't commit, Sokka is sentenced to be hung without trial. Finding that this is it for the young water tribe boy, he accepts the horrible fate he's been dealt with courage, only to be rescued by the last person he expected to see.

It is a horrible realization to have, that perhaps Zuko hadn’t thought this entirely through.
Because Sokka is everywhere.
He is in council, he is in the palace, in the barracks, the merchant yards, the gardens. He is bouldering his way into Zuko’s rooms without a second glance at the guards and dragging him out to go sightseeing, to go to the markets, to lay in the sand and watch the stars.
He is everywhere, and he is beautiful.
Or: Zuko asks his friend to come to the Fire Nation as a new council member, and struggles to survive under these conditions.

“Most people want an underlayer,” Suki explains, tugging at her own in demonstration before giving Sokka—or Sokka’s nipple piercings, rather—a sideways, pointed look, “Or else by the end of the day you’re going to be in friction burn city."
“Your city naming," Sokka sniffs, "Leaves something to be desired."]
OR,
Zuko would really like to kiss—and more—Sokka and Suki, but he knows better than to risk a friendship as amazing as theirs.
Suki and Sokka would really like to kiss Zuko, and maybe getting him into a Kyoshi Warrior for the first time can help them get there. They have to strip down to demonstrate how it's done, after all.

So beautiful that it makes him want to curse the Spirits for always keeping him just out of reach. The man he’s loved for as long as he can remember.
