“You should wrap up for the night,” Barbara told him almost distractedly, going back to her typing, “Finish up what you’re doing and report back to the Belfry.”
“Yeah, it’s bedtime for Nightwing,” Jason teased over the other line, his voice cutting in over Barbara’s. He laughed faintly, the mic cutting out for a second. Dick just groaned tiredly.
“I’ll be back soon,” Dick mumbled and did his best to tune out the rest of the chatter over the open line. He was too tired to deal with Jason’s teasing, and couldn’t even come up with a clever quip to shoot back at him.

Dick’s luck had finally run out. He knew Bruce would kill him if he found out, it’s not like he meant to get stabbed right before the big Wayne Foundation Spring Gala. He’d just wanted a few hours of Nightwing-time to clear his head, which he honestly deserved if he was going to the gala. Besides, the Wayne clan had an image to maintain, so he would go. Anyway, it was always fun to see Brucie make an appearance, though it may be a little less enjoyable with a stab wound.

Dick gets stabbed on patrol right before a gala, decides it's no big deal, and goes anyway. This may not have been the best plan.

Kryptonians ran hotter than humans by about 5.4 degrees, give or take a few decimal places. Clark felt like a radiator even on the bitterest of rainy nights on Gotham rooftops, a foot's distance between them; Bruce wondered if it would feel different somehow, if he pressed his hand against his chest, where his shield would lay, with intention—touch for the sake of touching. If it would feel different without the barrier of triple-weave kevlar and impenetrable alien fabric between them, stripped of the context of battle and the excuse of necessity.
Bruce was, however, in possession of all his faculties and thus was sound of mind enough to create a 20-item list (organized by relevance) of all the reasons why following through on his desires would be unwise. Chiefly among said reasons was, of course, that there were approximately thirty minutes before Clark would be married to the love of his life, Lois Lane, and that Bruce would never jeopardize their happiness for something as petty as feelings that he’d failed to smother in the cradle—no matter his alleged ‘self-destructive tendencies’.
