Summary
Helaena wakes up crying at twenty past three, the sound thin and piercing, cutting cleanly through the darkness of the house like a bird’s call.
Alicent squeezes her eyes shut. She tells herself that Helaena is only a toddler, that she doesn’t know anything, that she needs her mothers, that this is normal, that this is the price of love and the proof of it and not a feat worth challenging Sisyphus over. That it isn’t something she should begrudge her.

“Man overboard!” Ossos yells to the arriving crew. “No, Your Grace, don’t–!”The rest becomes white noise as they jump the rail.
Alicent Hightower searches for her missing brother amongst a sea of Naval Officers that either don’t know or don’t care. With her father away at War, she alone presses on. Her investigation leads her across the Caribbean, fighting monsters, and (most unfortunately) befriending a mysterious buccaneer.
Rhaenyra Targaryen sails upon a more literal sea, seeking treasure, pleasure, and (most importantly), revenge. Their journey is thrown off course when they encounter a red-head in distress. Despite initial concerns, they allow her to join their crew. What starts as a fragile alliance becomes something much more… complicated.

Summary
Rhaenyra turns back after a moment, her fingers still resting against scale.
“Come closer,” she says.
“No,” Alicent replies immediately.
Rhaenyra tilts her head. “You said you were cautious, not a coward.”

Summary
Detective Alicent Hightower meets federal agent Rhaenyra Targaryen when the latter takes over command of a case she's been working. The two clash over differing opinions on the capabilities of the local detectives and an introduction that goes wrong. Just as the two begin to come to an understanding about each other, one of them is gravely injured, sending their tense, adversarial (ish) dynamic into something entirely different.
