For some inexplicable reason, it was Bobby that Reggie pulled aside after rehearsal a few weeks ago and said, “Hey, man, so… my folks are going out of town? And it's the first time they've ever left me alone, they think I'm gonna mess it up, and I've got my kid brother to look after...”
And before he knew it, Bobby was being talked into house sitting, babysitting, and Reggie-sitting all in one fell swoop.

Nicknames are Willie's love language, and Alex just has to deal with it.

His friends are missing the point. The point is, Alex is going to go insane over the nickname thing, and no one else has any sympathy for his problem. When he ends up having a second funeral — because Willie calls him “my love” and he crosses over on the spot, most likely — they’re all going to stand around his gravestone and laugh. Here lies Alex, killed by his big dumb gay crisis.

Slowly, Julie closes her textbook and scans her room for any sign of disturbance. Everything appears to be in order, nothing out of place, but there’s something in the air—a chill, a warping, a presence.
Julie doesn’t know if she should be scared. She wouldn’t know how to recognize Caleb Covington even if she tried, much less defend herself from him. She hopes she won’t have to any time soon, so without a whole lot of other options, she says into the ominous silence, “Willie?”
Her curtains flutter, like there’s a breeze even though the window’s closed. Julie scrambles to lay her notebook open on the bed, her pencil in easy reach, and then she sits back with her hands in her lap and watches in wonder as the pencil lifts itself and starts to scrawl across the page.

Once he was getting dressed, he saw it. It was on the right side of his chest, about an inch long. It was a microphone that had a design of three ghosts on the center of it. Reggie’s mind couldn’t help but wander to Luke. Reggie shook his head, just because Luke was a singer, didn’t mean he was the only person in the world who used a microphone, and anyway, Luke didn’t have anything to do with ghosts.
And Reggie didn’t like Luke like that. He didn’t like any boys like that.

Reggie doesn't believe in soulmates because all his parents do is fight. Luke does believe in soulmates and thinks he's found his. But then they die and it turns out ghost soulmate marks are a thing which just makes Reggie's life harder than it already was.

It all explodes in an instant, so fast that no one really gets the chance to react.
On reflex, Luke turns. Alex is standing behind his drum set, tall and tense, but he’s not looking at him. His gaze is fixed somewhere else completely: the floor at Luke’s feet.
The seconds stretch out like hours. Luke can’t think, can’t force his brain to work or his body to move, can’t even make air enter his lungs. It’s impossible to do any of that when the room is complete chaos... and there’s blood, and there’s shouting, and through it all Reggie is laying on the floor, unmoving.

The Legos, those didn’t fit, they were wobbly and they fell over and over, and they were still frustrating. But the music - the music was solid and steady, and at this point, Reggie was pretty sure he wasn’t the only one keeping an eye on that and everything else. It wasn’t just him waiting to scramble in making sure things were okay - now, Alex and Luke were there, too. They were standing guard, building him up and making sure that he stayed safe.
(Or: Reggie deals with the frustrations of undiagnosed learning disabilities and parents one fight away from a divorce. Luckily, life has much more to offer.)

Alex is having... a really weird day. The last thing he remembers, he and the band were preparing for their upcoming gig. Suddenly, he wakes up, having accidentally brained himself while skateboarding, which he's never done in his life. A random (really cute) stranger helps him back to his familiar studio, and two out of three of his bandmates are there, but they’re... acting different. For some reason, Bobby’s been replaced by a girl he’s never met before in his life, who runs up to him and gives him a hug the second he gets back, exclaiming, “I was worried about you!” while Alex stands there like a paralyzed crab; and, when he actually looks around the studio, everything’s different from what he remembers.
Like, incredibly different.
Twenty-five years, a dark room, and an entire death's worth of different, and Alex doesn't remember any of it.

Alex rolls his eyes so hard it has to hurt. Luke just scoffs, crossing his arms.
“Look," Alex sighs, "Julie will… probably be fine tomorrow. Or a few days. We should just give her some space tonight.”
Luke and Reggie both gape at him like he’s grown an elephant trunk. “Give her some space?” Luke demands. “When she’s sick?”
“We don’t know what she’s sick w—“
He’s too late. Luke seizes hold of Reggie’s arm, and they’re both gone before Alex can get another word out.

The point — the point he finds himself totally unable to elaborate on right now, but which should be obvious from the way he’s pushed through school all day without a complaint — is, Alex doesn’t want to be sick. He can’t be. He doesn’t have the time; he doesn’t have the space. Not in his house, when his parents suddenly can’t bear to be in the same room with him… when just the sight of him makes them go stone-cold and disgusted, like someone’s left their golden child out in the sun to rot.
They don’t want him around when Alex is at his best. When he’s fine, just taking up space in the house at night and early in the mornings. If he can help it, Alex tries not to hang around his house too much anymore. It’s easier to stay out of the way. The atmosphere is enough to drown him if he stays submerged in it for too long; Alex is eager to escape his house the second he walks through the doors.
Being sick, though — sick and gross and needy, trapped in his room with nowhere to go and no one to take care of him… or worse, with someone who’ll take care of him but resent every second of it…
That’s hell.

If Alex had a clue, he’d be rich. It’s not like Reggie’s built like Tom Cruise or Luke Perry; he’s definitely no Swayze, with soulful eyes and a body to die for. Nothing about Reggie screams sex machine. There’s nothing… seductive about him. Nothing that gets blood pumping, heart racing, pins-and-needles standing up along your arms…
Maybe Alex just doesn’t get it. Maybe Reggie’s a very specific kind of hot, and it’s not gay hot.
But… nope. He’s not straight hot either. He’s not mainstream, conventionally irresistible. He’s not… trying, and that’s the insanely frustrating thing, because he doesn’t have to. The girls just… come to him, like they can’t resist. Like something about his twig arms and completely flat ass just lures them in.
