That sound in Brekker’s raspy voice is cold enough to freeze ice. She expects him to respond angrily to her information, but he remains unnaturally unruffled with that unreadable, birdlike expression on his face.
After several beats too long to be comfortable, he continues, “This must have been a relatively recent development if they haven’t figured you out yet. Oh well. It won’t be long. You’re not as subtle as you think you are.” And Heleen knows a threat when she hears one.

“It was my friend. He told me he would meet me in his dreams, and I guess I took that literally?”
Matthew snorts. “Your friend? I mean, they were obviously flirting with you, my man, because that sounds like a come on in every sense of the world,” Matthew says with what would be a smile, if he had lips.

After an off handed comment from his Stranger, Hob decides to learn to lucid dream. He dreams up a pub, and imagines some very strange customers: a talking Raven, a Pumpkin headed man, and a beautiful winged woman. Acting as bartender, he advises his dream friends about how to cheer up their boss, while they also advise him on how to approach his oldest friend, who he just might be in love with. But when the king of the dream realm decides to visit this peculiar institution, Hob might be in for more than he ever dreamed of…
