Summary
Bruce Wayne was a large man. He had a sharp-eyed charm that left the weak-willed dazzled and the strong-willed suspicious. He was dragon in all passable ways -- fierce, defensive of his charitable interests -- and yet failed to impress in others. He had no hoard; there was no evidence, on camera or in a witness account, of him ever having shifted.
Everyone who met him walked away with a shiver of something down their spine, uncertain what it meant. Thomas Wayne had set off the soft, human instincts and soothed them in the same breath, so visibly dragon -- and apologetic, at points -- as to be disarming.
Bruce Wayne apologized for nothing. He simply was. His teeth were sharp, his eyes even sharper, and he stared at those with opposing interests in a way that conveyed his delight in their confusion. In their inability to believe their own eyes and senses when that drowsy, long-disused human survival instinct woke in the back of their minds at the sound of his voice.

They have 24 hours to figure out where the cult hid the children, or they die. The only other option is to give up all of their identities and turn themselves in, but that's insane. They're the last line of defense Earth has against supervillians and alien threats.
So Barry and Shayera have to try and play good cop bad cop to get the location out of this guy? They're going to give it their best shot, and hope it works.

Clark looks between them. The alley. The way that Batman has been skirting in the shadows the entire night, trying to get away, before realizing that he couldn’t. He only confronted Clark when he gave up. Oh, Clark realizes, and feels all the anger drain from his body in one sweeping blow, the kid. He thought I was going to hurt him and the kid.
His kid.
AKA: After Lois gets hurt because of something Batman did, Superman goes to Gotham to talk. Bruce, however, is convinced that Superman is here to hurt him. To hurt Robin.

OR: the one where, due to some misunderstandings, Dick runs for his life, Alfred is a BAMF operator, Robin publicly punches Superman, and Bruce rains the fury of a righteous & protective Batdad down onto Clark Kent's head.

Bruce knows he came back wrong, because he feels them all before he even really wakes up.
He’s lying on the cot in the Cave – that much he can tell amidst the fog he seems to be floating in, trying to reach toward consciousness – the fabric scratching at his back even through the Kevlar of his under-armor. His ears pick up the rumble of voices above him and, farther and higher, the chattering of bats, as clearly as if they were right beside him.
He can smell his family around him: Dick’s faint cologne to his right by the cot, Alfred’s too, as well as the hint of Earl Grey tea he must have drunk a couple of hours earlier before they all returned from patrol. He smells the leather of Tim’s gloves, standing a few meters to his left alongside Duke and Cassandra. Gunpowder from Jason’s weapons and the residue on his hands. And Damian, who smells faintly like Gotham’s rain and his herbal shampoo, but is also covered in the heavy, unmistakable stench of cat and dog.
Titus, Bruce’s mind supplies, and Alfred the cat. He scrunches his nose, surprised by how violently the smell irritates him.
Or: after an encounter with their villains of the week, Bruce finds himself turned into a monster.

Summary
The Batman and his Robin of Gotham are the stuff of stories, of myths, of nightmares and legends; they are vigilantes for justice, fighting from the shadows in a way that only Gotham could benefit from, their existence only confirmed by the terrified tales of the criminals they leave in their wake.
So when the world needs heroes, Batman cannot be the one to answer the call. Gotham is a different beast, one who can only be tamed by another sort of creature, a Bat who doesn't belong in the light of day, who is unable to act as a beacon for the rest of the world.
That is a job for the Justice League.
