Brando Alwin is roadtripping across the country to California, where he already has a miserable job lined up. He's a little emotionally disregulated, to say the least.
They meet in a little diner on the edge of some podunk town, permanently altering the course of each other's lives.

Summary
i literally couldn't sleep until i wrote this.
the first in a series of oneshots based on each song off of Conan Gray's newest album, wishbone, as they pertain to the characters Wilson and Brando. I have no idea how long this series will be, only that once it's complete i'll begin working on a full length fic!
This is NOT RPF but will pull from all of Conan's discography so some themes will be carried over that line up with events in Conan's life.
No beta reader as of yet so any and all typos, grammatical errors, and mistakes are my own!

“Why, Mike? Why didn’t you…” Will’s voice breaks, and his true feelings ripple through the facade of anger. Mike understands now.
“I wrote you a letter every single day!” Mike shouts, louder than the rain, the ice cold water that’s piercing their skin, louder than the thunder that crackles threateningly. The long grass whips against his shins, and the wind throws rain into his eyes. He can see even darker clouds rolling in from the distance, but he continues.
“For 6 months. 182 days, I wrote to you. 182 letters.” Will looks beautiful, all rain-washed and wind blown, he looks like a wreck, devastated, maybe shocked, but so beautiful, and Mike feels warmth in his ribcage and bloodstream despite the terribly cold rain that pelters down onto them. He looks at Will’s face, his mouth, his eyes, really takes him in, and his lips are parting and he’s not sure if he can control himself anymore.
Or, Mike Wheeler is hopelessly in love with Will Byers. And also very stupid about it, because of course he is.

“Because he isn’t a jackass,” Older Mike retorts. “Oh, fu - I mean, shi - uh. I’m sorry." He looks at eleven-year-old Mike apologetically. "Excuse my language.”
Little Mike giggles. “You can say jackass.”
Older Mike smiles fondly. “Okay.” He turns back to Mike, scowling. “Jackass.”
“Why is he a jackass?” Little Mike pipes up.
“Yeah, why am I a jackass?” Mike asks indignantly. He can't help feeling like he's being ganged up on. By himself, no less.
“Do you want a list?” Older Mike growls.
