It's early still.
Syrupy thoughts of consciousness ooze forwards into awareness as Levi wakes. He catalogues the slow dawn of sensation with a certain satisfaction; warmth is pressed against his front, his cheek smashed between two shoulder blades, while his legs are tangled in sheets thoroughly stolen from his bedmate. He should get up, but the cold air biting at his nose keeps him buried beneath the blanket for just a little longer.
Winter has well and truly stolen the last vestiges of warmth from autumn, leaving behind frost on the window panes and brittle grass that crunches beneath a boot.

Summary
Levi couldn't see him anymore, but that was alright. There was a brief moment when he could. When those tired eyes of dull grey locked with his own in the clearing smoke, Erwin knew Levi saw him, knew Levi heard his beseeching to live. He laid his first flowers that night: rue pressed atop Levi's right eye, delicate marigolds atop his thin knuckles, and a nest of chamomile all woven through his ribs.

Summary
Soft scraping finally draws Erwin's attention, the barely-there sound almost deafening in the lifeless stacks. Adjusting his route, Erwin slows, pulling out a cold iron knife purified with salt before rounding to the next aisle. Lips pursing, brow furrowed, he stills when he finds himself confronted with nothing. There's silence again, and then… the scraping returns.
The eastern alcove.
Peering into the dreary shadows, Erwin sees something just as elusive sprawled in an overstuffed chair before the empty hearth.
"Levi." Erwin greets his after-hours guest with a touch of exasperated fondness, his grip relaxing on the blade in his hand. He sheathes the weapon and neatly tucks it away. "Are you my ghost?"

Summary
There, standing near at one of the customer tables is an immaculately dressed man - easily mistaken for a businessman were it not for the gun holster strapped securely around his chest where two berettas are displayed. Erwin knows from a lifetime ago at least one other gun is on the man's person, as well as a knife strapped onto the outside of the ankle. In his pale hands is a sawed-off shotgun pointed directly at Erwin's chest, and before the short figure is a tea cup which appears to be steeping.
"Coffee, really?" Questions a deep voice, sending skitters of electricity and long-buried longing up Erwin's spine. "You always had such shitty taste."
Erwin squints, and then realises with a sort of manic hysteria that isn't a brand he sells. His assassin has brought his own tea.
"Hello, Levi." The man in question scoffs, his flat affect betraying none of the brutality singing through his veins at the sight of Erwin. "I've missed you."

His feet hit hard and his knees buckle beneath him. It hurts when his hands skid on the decorative rug, the price he pays for catching himself to keep from flopping face-first into the ground.
