Summary
Behind him, he feels a small hand fist in the fabric of his trousers. He’s been keeping Dick behind himself, a human shield if necessary, but now he angles himself slightly and puts a hand on Dick’s head. Dick is very different from him, he’s realised. Where Bruce shunned physical contact, Dick craved it - he needed it like a flower needed sunshine - he’d survive without it, but he wouldn’t thrive. His tiny hand stays clenched against the back of Bruce’s thigh, but he melts ever so slightly under Bruce’s hand, and not for the first time Bruce thinks - if his touch can bring comfort to even a single person, it would be the greatest achievement in all his life.

Summary
English as a language isn’t designed or even well-adapted for the mockery that time travel makes of it, let alone dimensional travel, but he thinks he’s done a pretty good job of explaining it. All things considered, it’s probably for the best that Tim’s the one who ends up in an alternate universe.

To their credit, both Harley and Poison Ivy had seemed genuinely concerned when they realised that Jason had been squarely within the splash radius of their latest concoction.
“This wasn’t meant for you, Hood. My bad,” Harley apologised, even as she was being handcuffed and led to an Arkham van. It was specially designed to contain villains, which meant Harley had a 50 to 75 percent chance of escaping en route to Arkham, compared to her 95 to 100 percent chance of escaping a regular vehicle.
Poison Ivy, or Dr Isley - looking remarkably normal in a pair of cut-offs and a loose crop top - stopped in front of Jason too, and the police officers restraining her didn’t even comment on it. “I’m sorry too, for what it’s worth. Like Harley said, this wasn’t meant for you. You’ve always been a real gentleman, Hood. As an apology, I’ll give you this for free. Rubbing one out will probably make it wear off quicker. That always seemed to work during the trials.”

Dick grins and licks his own lips, still shivering from the aftershocks but nowhere near done for the night. “No. Why, are you planning on keeping me up late?”
Slade laughs and it rumbles through his skin into Dick’s chest. “Little bird, I don’t plan on letting you sleep at all.”

Either way, Slade doesn’t have the energy to deny an obvious truth. “Hitting on you is one thing, but I’ve never acted on my words, and I’m not about to start now.”
“Well,” Grayson insists, “why not? I mean, I’m right here, and I’m offering. You don’t flirt with everyone - I know you don’t. It must have meant something.”
“Yes,” Slade snarls, “it meant that you’re an attractive person, and I have eyes. But you’re also a child, and that’s a line I’ve never crossed.”
“So what, you would’ve killed me then, but you won’t fuck me now?” Grayson demands, his hands coming to rest on his hips in a gesture of indignation. He’s so attractive that Slade’s gut twists at the sight of him, and he swallows back a growl that threatens to come out of his throat.
“Yes,” Slade agrees after taking a deep breath, “because I’m a mercenary, not a rapist.”
“For fuck’s sake Slade, I’m not a child anymore! I’m twenty three years old, and I’m perfectly capable of making my own choices.”
And that - that’s true.

Summary
Back then, Bruce had trusted neither Diana nor Kal, and the situation had only been exacerbated by the fact that Diana and Kal got along pretty well themselves, leaving Bruce paranoid that they were conspiring against him.
Now, of course, he knows that Diana and Kal aren’t the conspiring type. If they were going to act against him they’d do so to his face, without pretence.
Kal insists that they’d never act against Bruce at all, but he can’t know that for sure - there’s never any guarantee that Bruce wouldn’t deserve it - so it’s not a discussion Bruce bothers engaging with.

Summary
Weeks pass and the clan remains occupied with the chaos that is Gotham. It’s no busier than usual, but Bruce feels himself tiring easily, still recovering from his involuntary jaunt through the timestream. Everyone is remarkably kind to him, giving him time and space to recover. Unfortunately, all that time gives him, well… a lot of time to think. To consider. To analyse the changes that have occurred during his absence. There are new alliances, new tensions, shifting fault lines in the geology of his family. He reminds himself that this is the best case scenario; that everyone is still alive and well, that things could have gone much worse. But he can’t help but feel there’s something he’s still missing. Something he hasn't been told.
AKA: the one where Bruce learns how to use his words, and tries not to be too nosy about his children's love lives.

Slade’s laughter rumbles behind him and Dick can feel it vibrating through his chest. “Do you mean to say - all those rooftop chases, all those fights, and you’ve never had anything on under your suit?” Slade sounds unfairly delighted.
Dick sighs but he can kinda see the humour in it. Babs always told him his choices were going to come back and bite him in the ass someday, though he doubts she’d foreseen this specific scenario. “Have you seen my suit? I didn’t want to ruin the lines.” Slade laughs out loud and it’s funny now, but Dick thinks it’s going to be a nightmare on their next rooftop chase - and there will be a next one. He knows better than to think this one night of experimentation is going to change anything about their relationship in the long run.

Summary
The day Kon gets an undercut nearly sends Tim over the already-precarious edge of a mental breakdown. He’s been awake for over 48 hours when Kon barges into his room and for a split second, Tim thinks he’s a hallucination. But a hallucination wouldn’t be able to open doors - unless the open door was a part of the hallucination? He isn’t sure…
He gapes at Kon for fifteen seconds, not hearing a single word coming from his mouth until Bart, who’d been curled up in Tim’s bed with his face pressed into Tim’s hip, wakes up, rubbing sleep from his eyes. “Nuh?”
Kon stops talking - Tim assumes, because his mouth stops moving - and stares at them in return.
“Uh, I’m sorry I didn’t realise I was interrupting—”
Bart yawns so wide that his jaw clicks and he whines in protest at his own body’s betrayal. “You’re not. Rob’s on his what, 50th hour of consciousness? He’s not exactly at home.” As if to demonstrate, Bart waves his hand in front of Tim’s face and then snaps his fingers three times right in front of Tim’s eyes. Tim doesn’t even flinch - all his reflexes are shot.

Summary
He’d known that Kramer was gunning for Neal, but he’d hoped against hope that everything he’d told Neal about the justice system would be vindicated. Instead, Kramer’s seniority had outweighed all of Neal’s hard work, just because Kramer wanted him as a tool in his arsenal to increase his own closure rates. It hurt to think of his once-trusted mentor in such a way, but not as much as it hurt seeing Neal in handcuffs for the second time that day.
“Kramer has powerful friends, Neal. I’m trying but I don’t know if I can get you out of this one. I’m so sorry.”
Neal shook his head and flashed a quick smile at Peter. “Trust me, Peter. My friends are more powerful than his.”
