For many long years Merlin waited.

Summary
“They say Emrys tamed the great dragon of Camelot and sired the white dragon of Albion-”
“Sired?” Gwaine interrupted “This Emrys fellow is going around siring dragons? How exactly is that happening? Sex with other dragons?” He asked and despite the situation, Merlin flushed. The man in question blinked, looking equally baffled by the question. From the corner of his eye, Merlin could see Arthur pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Uh…I actually don’t know.”
“But you’re Emrys,” Merlin reminded the imposter with a sigh “You don’t remember siring any dragons?”
“I said it was an off day!” The man complained, trying to cross his arms despite being upside down. Merlin took a long breath. Lancelot had already walked away, but that did nothing to hide his howling laughter.
Or
The knights keep hearing various (dramatic) rumors about the great and mighty Emrys. Everyone is such a gossip. Merlin is trying not to have a heart attack. Lancelot is loving life.

“...You aren’t Spider-Man anymore, are you?” Pepper asked, looking him over as gently as she could’ve. Peter tearfully shook his head.
“Not right now,” was all he could manage.
“I’m sorry, Peter; if I had known you were Spider-Man earlier, I would’ve come and got you—”
“I forgive you, Pepper,” Peter said, moving his head to look her in the eyes. “I do. To tell you the truth, I saw Tony last night, and I think that getting to hug him one last time was worth…everything I went through. Of course, it was because I almost died, but Tony helped me stitch it up and told me to come here. I was so scared to, though, because if you didn’t want anything to do with me, then there would’ve been nothing left in the world for me to hope for, but… Well, you know how persuasive Tony was.” Pepper searched Peter’s eyes for a moment longer before smiling sadly.
“He really loved you, didn’t he?”
“Yeah, he did,” Peter whispered, trying to keep the waver out of his voice. “Um, anyway, I—”
“Do you want to live here, Peter?”
Or, Peter makes it to the Stark's lake house, and the more time he spends there, the more Pepper and Morgan help him find the pieces of himself he'd lost.

Summary
“Promise me, Peter Parker, that you’ll stay kind— that you’ll keep doing good things for this world, suited up or otherwise.”
It was an easy enough request. Stay kind. Do good. Of course, the underlying message was, don’t become Peter 3— a sentiment that the variant himself even expressed that night on top of the high school.
Then again, Peter 3 had still helped him, even after he’d been plopped into a reality that was not his own— that instead belonged to a version of himself who’d made a big, bloody mess of everything, and… And Peter 3 hadn’t even asked any questions. He didn’t cast any judgment, either. He just stepped in, right alongside Peter 2, and he got to work.
It’s what they do.
So maybe… Maybe being Peter Parker wasn’t about how much you lost, but about who you were able to help, afterwards— despite the grief and the bitterness.
And, like it or not, he was Peter Parker, so he was just going to have to find some way to help people again, in spite of the fact that one of the people he lost was himself.
Or, Peter gets fatally wounded on patrol, but his host of dead parental figures has something to say about him joining them on the other side just yet.
