There are a million reasons why Euijoo should say no. He hasn’t seen Nicholas in eight years. Who knows how much they both have changed? Euijoo certainly isn’t the same eighteen-year-old who left Japan, and he doesn’t know who Nicholas is anymore. This could end so poorly. It’s only in recent years that he has managed to lacquer his broken edges back together again, and yet here he is, going willingly into the waiting arms of the person who shattered him.

Taeyang blinks at him. “Why?” he asks bluntly.
Maybe he shouldn’t be biting the hand that feeds him, but he doesn’t like men so presumptuous. He doesn’t like men that can’t or won’t explain themselves. He doesn’t like liars. Unless they’re lying with him, then it’s fine.
“Uh,” Keeho looks around like he’s trying to get a reaction from an audience. The snow stays painfully silent. “Because I’m a caring citizen and a good neighbor. A real stand up guy.”

“It’s nothing important,” Minhee shakes his head, trying to sound reassuring. Minhee’s just— had a lot on his mind and Hyeongjun is just being so careful with him. Minhee feels tiny.
“Nothing important means there is something, still.” Hyeongjun scoffs, pinching Minhee's ear lightly, earning a small yelp. “Tell me. I won't let you go until you tell me what’s wrong. Even if it’s something small, even if it doesn't matter—”
“I love you,” Minhee says, making Hyeongjun stop all his movements all together.

Summary
Like turning over a fallen leaf to find the other face is crimson and gold and speckled, Euijoo watches a new side of Nicholas appear in Taiwan.
It’s impossible not to smile as they hear how joyfully Nicholas speaks in Mandarin with his family the moment they gather inside their home, no hesitation in his tone — only laughter with a sparkle in his eye that Euijoo has only ever seen on occasion. This part of Nicholas is one Euijoo has only witnessed in bits, thanks to the sporadic phone call or moment when one of the members says something right in Mandarin. Euijoo feels almost greedy and intrusive for seeing it up close, for wanting to see it more.
But he wants.
Or: Euijoo witnesses Nicholas in Taiwan, and wonders if perhaps he'd failed at making his boyfriend feel at home when he's away from home.
