"It was that one time," Kaveh said, his cheeks burning slightly. "You just happened to find me at a bad moment."
"Certainly, certainly," the scholar said, mirth in his eyes, “How could anyone possibly fool the great Light of Kshahrewar?”There's a visiting scholar following Kaveh around, all smiles and sunshine, and Kaveh finds himself torn between his lingering unrequited feelings for a certain someone and this bold newcomer.
But Kaveh starts to realise something strange- Alhaitham never appears at the same time as the other guy.

Alhaitham exhales roughly and turns back towards his room. Moments later, he hears six pairs of footsteps following him.
He swings his door open and raises a brow.
Kaveh’s eyes narrow. He peeks inside, taking in the muddy floors, the flowers strewn all over the place, and the leaves scattering the floors. Alhaitham watches Kaveh scan the room before his eyes flit over Alhaitham, and then the Aranara, and then Alhaitham again.
Through it all, the Aranara continue to stare at Alhaitham like he’s the biggest disappointment they’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting.
Kaveh’s lips twitch.
“Don’t you dare.”

Summary
Sighing, he lets go of his envy, welcoming the exhaustion. It would be so easy to just not care, to not think more of their arrangement than what it was, like Alhaitham clearly did. He wasn't losing sleep over it, and Kaveh definitely did not feel disappointed by the fact (the telltale itch of his eyes, the hollow at his chest, betrayed him just like his heart did).

Summary
Being Sumeru's Archon only means the weight of the world is on his shoulders and, despite loving his nation dearly, Kaveh cannot ignore the growing feeling of loneliness stirring within him. Then he meets a little bird that makes it all better.
A familiar Squawk! fills the air. Kaveh smiles as the eagle flies near, landing at his feet. It stares up at him, tilting its head to the side, and proudly displaying a blue and gold feather within its beak.
As Kaveh leans down, it drops the feather then chirps quietly. He takes the feather in his hand, turning it over, then runs his fingers over it. It’s soft and elegant; Kaveh wonders where the little eagle even got such a thing.
It chirps again, redirecting Kaveh’s attention and he lets out a soft chuckle, petting down the eagle’s head to its soft back feathers. “Is this for me? You shouldn’t have… I don’t need any gift for saving you. It’s just my duty.”
The eagle chirps a third time, raising its wings as if to make itself appear larger.
Kaveh can’t help but laugh again. “Well! Thank you for the present, I suppose. Will I see you again, little eagle?"
It squawks loudly at him in response.

Instead, he’s getting interrogated by an amateur kidnapper who won’t take no for an answer, playing chess with the same amateur who definitely has ulterior motives, and realizing that, maybe, he’s stumbled headfirst into a conspiracy way above his pay grade.
Oh, and the not-so-amateur kidnapper? He’s everywhere.
(Or: Kaveh makes one wrong turn and ends up accidentally kidnapped. Somehow, it's less stressful than dealing with his clients.)
