Casey’s brow twitched, a miniscule movement that Helena only caught because she’d been waiting for it. She looked so pretty when she was confused.
“But it’s the middle of the quarter.”
“I’ll be the first to admit that it’s a bit… unorthodox,” Helena assured her, really savouring that last word in hopes that Casey might repeat it later, “but this is a necessary evil, I’m afraid.”

“I meant exactly what you think.” Francesca murmurs, looking at Michaela’s inquisitive but patient face.
Michaela frowns at her and her mouth starts to move but Francesca has gone through the same questions herself, she knows what Michaela’s about to ask.
“It is,” Francesca swallows nothing but saliva, nervous again. To do something with her hands, she looks down at her plate and takes the cutlery back, “It is both, for me. I cannot tell you how I know but I do.”
Michaela lays a hand over Francesca and she realises how tight her hold on the knife had become, “I understand, I believe you.”
Or: John is not a Stirling but he was Earl of Kilmartin and married Francesca, then died, which results, a couple of months later, in Francesca wanting to isolate herself with Eloise in the Bridgerton’s farm property, Colworth, where Michaela Stirling has been the, peculiarly interesting, hired hand for years.
