Summary
The low humming of chattering voices is starting to become grating. The lights are too bright, blaring like the desert sun. Glasses clink and beer spills, the smell pouring into the air, with the sweat and lingering scent of cigarette smoke. The patrons of the Bloody Hook roar with cheer, slam fists on tables, push back chairs, the legs scraping against the timber floors. Somewhere a glass shatters, someone yells. Feet stomp and GT Blitz’s smug voice booms from the TV. Another day of racing over, another victory won, another knife aimed at his throat.

On a rainy, lonely night, Jak turns up at Keira's door, soaked, bleeding and in need of healing.

“Come in.” She steps aside, allowing Jak entry, taking in the slight limp in his step, the way his gaze flickers around the room like a caged animal. “Jak, talk to me, please?”
Jak’s lashes flutter, the dazed sheen clearing from his eyes. “Sorry.” He rubs awkwardly at the back of his neck, a familiar habit. “I… It’s been a rough night.”
It looks like it’s been more than a rough night, given Jak’s soaked and dishevelled appearance. She’s not going to push the matter, though. Jak is shaken, is trying to act like he’s fine. Like there isn’t a gash right between his eyes, which is trickling blood down his nose. “Lose a fight with Daxter?” She teases.

Jak watches the rise and fall of the waves, the sound turning back time and setting him down on a bed of green grass. Blades tickle at bare skin, evening air smelling of jasmine. The ocean is calm under the setting sun, the tide rising high under the sway of the moon. Darkness falls across the land, peaceful and cooling after the warm summer's day. Time stands still, allowing Jak to linger on a different cliff, gaze out a different world.
