Summary
It’s like all the pain and fear fades out of existence for a moment, leaving him with an odd sense of euphoria. He feels invincible, as though he could take down a thousand armies and live to tell the tale.
And then he hears his dad’s footsteps behind him. Suddenly he’s nothing more than a scared little boy, running from his dad and trying to escape the inevitable. Suddenly, he’s running with the knowledge that if he’s not fast enough he will get caught and he will *die*.
Written for the prompts CORNERED, SHAKY HANDS, and PHONE CALL, for day 9 of Whumpuary 2026, the January whump prompt event.

“Promise me, Troy. Promise me you won’t go.” There is a crazed look in his eyes, and he knows it.
“Okay,” Troy promises. “Okay.” It is so immediate, so calm- more gentle than Abed deserves. He says it like it is nothing, but it is everything.
“Okay,” Abed breathes. He lets Troy lead them back to his bunk, tuck him under the covers, and slide his own body underneath the sheets.
“I love you,” Troy whispers, and Abed pretends he doesn’t hear.

When Annie started talking about her concerns on Troy being "too much" in his new relationship with Abed, Jeff hadn't been willing to be dragged into this. Hating on someone’s happiness was one thing, but interfering with that person’s relationship was what it takes to wreck one’s reputation through and through. Plus, Jeff had seen enough romcoms back in the days to know that trying to change someone’s ways of expressing themself never worked as planned, but looking at their friend right now, Jeff would have to admit that maybe Annie wasn't exaggerating about the problem.

“Uh--” He glanced over at Fake Troy, who was still sitting next to him, smiling. He didn’t want to be crazy, but he was seeing things that weren’t real and it was scary. He was scared, and Fake Troy kept smiling and Real Troy, Clone Troy was gone. He didn’t want Annie to know he was crazy, but he was scared. “I’m--I’m seeing Troy.”

Britta stared up at him, mouth wide open. “What? Why would you make a list like that?” She remembered the glimpse she’d caught of the bottom of the paper. “But I’m--I’m at the bottom?”
He nodded. He didn’t say anything, but Britta broke into a wide smile.
“Thank you Abed,” she said. “I would never ever betray you! I’m glad you know that.” Abed flashed a short smile. Britta reached out to pat him on the shoulder. “Come on, let’s go to the study group meeting.”
