She seems speechless for a moment, rightfully so, before he can see her frantically putting her things into her bag. “I’ll be home soon,” she answers swiftly. “Can you wake Knuckles to sit with you and ask him to get the things I’m going to text you?”
Shadow nods, his throat aching and itching suddenly.
“Good boy,” Maddie praises, and Shadow refuses to ignore the little swish of his tail from the words.
