Summary
Wei Wuxian doesn’t hear his brother kick open the door through the ringing in his ears. It isn’t until he raises his hanging head, squinting through his swollen eye, that he sees Jiang Cheng framed in the doorway with Zidian crackling on his finger. Zidian shifts the atmosphere of the entire restaurant, and the sharp smell of ozone makes Wei Wuxian flinch involuntarily -- the last time he smelled it, his entire back was numb, so useless he could barely walk, and Jiang Cheng hasn’t been able to use it until now. Relief and fear shoot through him in equal measure; this means the surgery took. It also means Jiang Cheng did not take his advice about being careful next time.

Summary
When Lan Zhan indicates a willingness to be Wei Ying's (platonic) dom, Wei Ying jumps at the chance. But then Wei Ying catches feelings. Really inappropriate feelings for someone who's supposed to be his esteemed platonic colleague. Surely the detestably respectful thing to do is to break it off rather than violate this clear boundary, right?
But before Wei Ying can work up the fortitude to take that final, terrible step, he and Lan Zhan get caught up in a surprise case. One where talking to each other becomes significantly harder.

Summary
In the aftermath of the disastrous events on Tarsus IV, Wei Ying is rescued by none other than Lan Zhan, his former Vulcan best friend and now Starfleet Captain.

“The man who recognised you, Captain,” Commander Osei begins, already wary of his reaction. She is right to be. Lan Zhan already does not know how he will proceed when Wei Ying is identified, when Starfleet realises exactly who it is they have rescued. A life is a life, and nobody on his crew would argue otherwise, but even so.
“Did you know him?” she finishes. Lan Zhan’s face is perhaps not widely-known, but he is given enough press conferences in his time that it would not be out of the realm of possibility for Wei Ying to be — to not —
“We attended Starfleet together.” There is little point prevaricating, and Lan Zhan will not lie, not about this, not even by omission. “His name is Wei Ying.”

“You didn’t have to come,” Wei Wuxian says, sounding faintly embarrassed. “Whatever Jiang Cheng told you, it’s not true. It’s just a stab wound. Didn’t even puncture anything important. My doctor said I’d be right as rain in no time.”
“You got stabbed?” Lan Wangji can’t quite hide the shock in his voice.
Wei Wuxian ducks his head. “Just a little.”
(Desperate to get away from his family, Lan Wangji has settled into a quiet life. Wei Wuxian seems to be intent on disturbing it. Lan Wangji seems intent on letting him.)

Summary
Wei Wuxian hadn’t been avoiding Lan Wangji for years, but he hadn’t been not-avoiding Lan Wangji either. There was something awful and awkward about seeing your intended spouse after turning them down that Wei Wuxian just didn’t want to deal with. It helped that he went away for university, and that Lan Wangji went away for university, and they happened to both go to different countries. Wei Wuxian liked to think they both wanted to get as far away from the situation as possible.
(the situation being each other)
So why, then, does Wei Wuxian’s heart skip a beat every time he sees Lan Wangji? And why is adult Lan Wangji so hot? It’s not fair that they could be married and instead Wei Wuxian is awkwardly pining for his former betrothed, a boy he once publicly broke it off with without regret.
