Written for the following prompts given to me on tumblr: “Are you really going to make me say it?” [Pause] “I’m in love with you.” + “It’s too late. You had years—fucking years—to say something. To tell me how you felt. And you didn’t.”
This is a gap-filler/character study of Mickey's POV, spanning from when he goes to prison in season 6, to when he returns to prison in season 9. Title taken from Waiting Room by Phoebe Bridgers.

"Ian reaches out his arm. He wants to close the space between them—but also stay right where they are. Him by the pickup counter, Mickey near the sodas, like two strangers eyeing each other in some random store. Or—just Ian and Mickey. Ian and Mickey who’ve known each other nearly twenty years now. Them, on a Thursday morning at Walgreens, the day Mickey comes with his husband to pick up the pills from the new prescription his shrink gave him barely thirty minutes ago.
“Ian?”
The pharmacist’s voice is cheerful. She uses his first name, like they do at Starbucks.
He confirms his name and date of birth distractedly. When he lays the letterhead paper on the counter, he re-read the words written on it. He knows them by heart, without hating them.
"Extended-release medication."
It means one dose a day instead of three for the same effect."
