He started sprinting and to his horror he felt the heat of flame lick at his heels. A scream broke out of him and he stumbled and fell to the ground. His entire body shaking, he turned on his back to see what he was facing.
A small silvery dragon was perched on the smoking trunk of a tree, watching Egg with serpentine eyes.
After the tourney at Ashford, Maekar sends Egg to Dragonstone, hoping he won't cause anymore mischief under the supervision of his uncle Baelor. He should have known his son better than that, he just didn't expect the boy to become the first Dragonrider in almost 80 years.

Their last game, at home in Ottawa, had been unremarkable. Cold and awkward for the most part, but nothing noteworthy. Tonight had been the same so far.

One shot on goal was blocked and the follow-up smothered. Play came to a halt and, as the skaters turned to reset, the crowd fell silent. Ilya was still down. The hit was a bit awkward, but still so normal, so routine, that no one expected an injury. Even Shane hadn’t felt the need to watch his husband and make sure he was okay.

Takes place first season that Shane and Ilya are on the Centaurs together. Ilya is injured in a game against the Voyagers, and the pair navigates another injury in the spotlight, but without having to hide.

Newly traded to the Ottawa Centaurs, Ilya Rozanov is so close to having everything he’d never thought he was allowed to want. After his disastrous birthday, Steve gets the opportunity to leave after his grandmother dies and leaves him a house in Seattle, Washington and a shit ton of money. He decides to take it. After a year, he gets word that his parents had tragically passed away in a car accident and had to head back to Hawkins for the reading of their will.

“She would like this place,” Ilya murmured softly, sniffling and failing to smile. “Quiet. No shouting. No boots.” His voice dropped. “She would love you.”
Shane pressed his mouth to Ilya’s hair, careful, reverent. “You are so beautiful, Ilya. So perfect. Your mother was right. I know she loved you so much because I can see her in you.” Ilya whimpered softly, eyes closing and lashes fluttering against his cheeks.
(They make it to the cottage but Ilya's got a lot of unresolved trauma and wakes Shane up in the throes of a nightmare. In the quiet of their cottage they work through some of it).
Added an epilogue:
“You’re my good boy, aren’t you, Ilya?” Shane’s voice was soft and deep. He loved watching how Ilya reacted-biting his own lip and closing his eyes, a tear spilling down as his thrusts became erratic. Ilya was a really emotional person and, deep down, wanted to be told he was good, even if he would deny himself it.
“Please, please, please l-let me.” Ilya mumbled out, words heavily accented and wet as he gasped for air.
