Every hobbit knows that dwarves are voracious lovers. So Bilbo can only assume that Thorin has just been waiting for the opportune time to thoroughly ravage his burglar, who is by no means inexperienced himself.
This would be news to Thorin, of course, since dwarves don't even feel desire until they fall in love.
This leads to a slight misunderstanding.

Bitterly, Bilbo drowns himself in ale, and when another dwarf tries to pick a fight with him, Thorin rushes to his aid declaring him to be ‘the future Consort’. Bilbo is now wildly confused and quite sure he’s dreaming, but he knows for sure he doesn’t want to wake.
