Summary
Ponyboy has always enjoyed watching sunrises and sunsets. It had always been a trait of his to go out onto the rooftop (in secret) and state at the fading orange and yellow.
Well now he's watching it from the rooftop of a well-polished, overly clean building set somewhere in the capital, with a camera looking at him at all times.
He has to do this. Every moment counts. He needs to see his Soda again, his Darry, his Johnny. He will do whatever it takes to make it back to them and to be able to fall back into the safety of their open arms.
Even if it means killing someone. Even if it means going through intense amounts of torture and horror-like scenes.
He will make it back to the gang. To his family. He just has to win the games...
But then he thinks about the scrawny twelve year olds in the arena wjth him. They want to go home tok. They want to be hugged by their Mom again too. They want to walk the streets of their familiar neighborhoods too. They want to be able to talk and laugh with their best friends again as well.
He suddenly feels guilty and scared. He's just fourteen. What is he going to do...?

The sound of it settles deep inside his chest. "C'mon Tommy," Newt calls easily from the huddle of their friends, sunset lighting them up in a way that makes Thomas's heart squeeze, nothing more noticeable than the gold in Newt's eyes. Thomas turns, but can’t resist a final glance over his shoulder at the forests beyond the gates. He freezes.
