Summary
When a pandemic of Runespoor Fever sweeps through the wizarding world at the end of 2003, leaving a full quarter of its victims infertile, the International Confederation of Wizards takes drastic action. A marriage and reproductive law is enacted, throwing the wizarding world into upheaval.
Lightly inspired by the 1989 film The War of the Roses, (but without the animal death,) and our own recent pandemic.
She was wearing one of her neat, buttoned-up outfits as always; brown herringbone trousers and a silky cream blouse that covered her from throat to wrist, her hair braided around her head but not quite as neat as usual. He stopped several feet from her and frowned. “Why do you smell of smoke, Granger?”
“Does it really matter, Malfoy?” She skewered him with a glare, arms folding across her chest. “Perhaps I took up smoking.”
“And did you?”
She gave him an ‘are you mad?’ look. “No, I burnt down my office,” she said exasperatedly, as if it should’ve been obvious, and he tried to refrain from giving her an ‘are you mad?’ look in return.

Summary
Post-war Wizarding Britain never truly changed after the war. It’s 2009 and Hermione Granger is on the fast track to becoming the youngest Minister for Magic. But power in magical Britain is precarious. In a second, Hermione's world comes crashing down. A marriage law is invoked. Hermione must pioneer it or risk everything she holds dear.
But there’s more to the story, making Hermione question everything she ever believed in.
She would be Minister. At any cost.
She just didn't expect to be doing it with Draco Malfoy at her side.
OR
If no one would let her be Minister, she was going to take it. And Draco Malfoy was going to help her do it.

“Stop stalling.” She laughed.
“Right.” he confirmed, “I’m off to have a dastardly time bashing around Londo- oh, wait, no, I’m off to go meet the gold-digger Mum set me up with,” he snapped. “I get those two confused all the time.”
“Go,” she urged, tucking her mouth into the sleeve of her jumper to hide her smile. “I’ll be up reading when you get home.”
“You’ll be asleep on the library sofa and we both know it.” He winked, before closing the door.

Hermione is forced to watch her best friend Draco Malfoy go on dates and finally confront the fact that she doesn't just love him, she is in love with him.

Reasons why being in love with Draco Malfoy is wholly unacceptable:
1. He is insufferable
2. He is married
3. He is her academic rival
4. Now, unhappily, he is also her colleague, and they are meant to be collaborating
5. Professional boundaries ought to be observed with colleagues
5b. Especially when her application for tenure is fully dependent on forging a successful academic collaboration with said colleague
6. It is not compatible with her five-year plan (see items 1-5 for specifics)Hermione has a deeply compelling list of reasons not to be in love with Draco Malfoy. To her dismay, when her department chair at St. Mungo's Medical School forces her into close proximity with Malfoy for the sake of undertaking an alchemy collaboration, she begins to develop romantic feelings she never meant to have.
Desperate to remedy this lamentable affliction, she invents a potion that can reverse the state of being in love. The only trouble is, she can’t seem to bring herself to take it.
