Summary
Silco was floating. Calm. At peace for but a single moment in which his entire body was weightless, supported in the water’s gentle caress. With his next breath, though, it hit him all at once. The constriction of his lungs, the toxins searing the open flesh of his gut, his chest ablaze as he choked.
The flutter of his heart raced as the image flashed before him of water made wine dark by his blood, of large calloused hands squeezing his throat and holding him under. The shadow of a man—his friend—hung above him, but when he flailed to scrape his nails into the wrists choking him, his hands found nothing—no one—save the tendrils of blood mixing further with the waste of the river.

In which, unbeknownst to anyone, Silco survives being shot by Jinx. Feeling conflicted and lost—unsure if revealing himself to Jinx would hurt her more than heal her—Silco finds himself drawn to the old mining shaft. He finds more than the dusty letter with his name on it when a beast shoves its way in. Not just a beast. Vander. And when Jinx, Vi, and Isha track that same beast to the mines, what should be heartfelt reunions are clouded with the pain their decisions inflicted on each other.

He held her limp hand as tightly as he could, just like she had done for him all those years ago, and looked at her with tear-lined eyes as she uttered her last words to him. And when his father removed her body swiftly and without emotion, Zuko stayed in that room for hours afterward, staring at the indent in the mattress where his beloved mother had just rested, her final words echoing through his head:
‘Remember this Zuko--no matter how things may seem to change, never forget who you are. Have courage, and be kind.’”
by day, zuko is the mistreated and indentured son of an exiled former ruler, and sokka is the charming prince of the kingdom. by night, they are the blue spirit and captain boomerang, stars of the kingdom’s underground fight club. cinderella shenanigans ensue.

“So you want money,” Silco says flatly.
“Look," Vander says, "Those reparation payments that prick is demanding – that’s too much. The Last Drop can’t afford that. I can’t afford it. It’s not just my livelihood, Silco. It’s everyone I care about. The children will be out on the street.”
Silco’s face is devoid of any expression. “So. You want money.”
Left with crippling debt and a failing business, Vander's only option to save the Last Drop is to ask Silco for a loan. Over the span of a few weeks, Vander's debt is cleared, the bar has gotten a makeover, Silco's henchmen have started using it as their hangout, and throughout it all, Silco is refusing to be paid back.

Vi would, usually, say something about being morbid, but there isn’t much space for interpretation; the fact that whoever owned these old, dusty jackets hadn’t come back to retrieve them says volumes about their state of being.
“A long time ago, actually.”
Her mind catches up with her a few seconds too late, starting at the person who’s just arrived behind them, leaning on the doorframe and staring at them with weary eyes. Jinx’s quiet gasp comes from behind her, unsure and disbelieving.
“Silco.”

It had taken him years upon years to learn the lesson – all the important ones always did take Zuko too long to grasp – but he had finally learned to understand when he was unwanted, unneeded. So he left.
He had thought his destiny was intertwined with the Avatar's and the spirits had laughed at his foolishness. It was up to him to discover his own path, in the end.Or: Zuko left after saving Aang and his friends from Combustion Man because he knew he wasn't really wanted and sets off on his own to discover how to help the world recover from a century of war. He did not really intend to become a spirit-figure along the way.
