And while he wants to grimace at the stupid nickname (Shitty Hair was proving to be a fucking annoying neighbor), Bakugou only nods, briefly eyeing the spot on the blade where he had wiped off a fleck of blood just seconds ago, before meeting Shitty Hair’s gleaming eyes, “Just be sure to clean it before you return it.”
Or, the five times his new neighbors, Shitty Hair and Dunce Face, almost caught Bakugou red-handed and the one time Shitty Hair figured something out.

The boy straightens up. He’s about half a head shorter than Katsuki, face soft and youthful and sweet. He turns to look at him properly. His dark hair shines in the dying light, basket of blooms looped over one arm and mouth quirked into a tiny half-smile. The sun hits his face and makes his eyes a bright greeny-gold, just like emeralds.
Katsuki likes emeralds.
“Pretty,” he says, reaching out and picking the stranger up around the middle. He’s surprisingly heavy, although Katsuki doesn’t mind. “I like you. Come see my nest.”
The boy hits him.
He’s stronger than he looks, turns out. Katsuki drops him and falls onto his back, pain blooming across his face. Birds sing. The sky’s a lovely shade of orange, clouds floating lazily by. The boy scarpers. He leaves his basket of flowers behind, footsteps thumping on the ground and fading away as he escapes.
The sun sets. Katsuki, lying flat on his back with a bloody nose, decides he’s just fallen in love.

Alright. Maybe his idiot friends had a point, Katsuki thinks as he shoulders open the front door. His mother’s in the living room drinking coffee. Katsuki kicks off his shoes and stomps over. “Am I charming?” he demands, blocking the TV.
Mitsuki pats his cheek. “Oh, hon. Not at all.”
He goes upstairs. The bed makes a pomf noise as he faceplants into it. He needs a date for the sake of his pride, but there has to be a guarantee he won’t get rejected. Gossip travels and he’s not inconspicuous. He can already see the future headlines. Exposé : Bakusatsuo, failure at prom.
He sighs and rolls over. “Fine,” he says to the All Might poster next to his bed. “I’m not showing up to that dance alone. We’ll go with plan B.”

The cutlery stops clinking. Izuku sighs into his spaghetti. They’d talked about this. Izuku had talked about it, anyway, although come to think of it he really should have known Kacchan wouldn’t listen to a word. Dropping bombs even in the middle of a nice family dinner. How very on-brand. “I thought we agreed to break the news gently.”
Mitsuki, to her credit, takes the revelation in stride. "We’re very happy for you, Izuku! You’re a sweet kid and you’ll be a good influence on my stupid son.”
“Thank you, aunty.” Inko still hasn’t said anything. Hesitantly, Izuku reaches across the table to brush his fingers against hers. “Mom? You’re being awful quiet.”
Mitsuki nudges her. “I’m sure she’s just surprised. Really, Masaru and I should be thanking you, Izuku. You’re far too good for our son.”
Inko smiles very sweetly and takes a sip of her wine. “You know what, Mitsuki? I agree.”

Izuku’s eyes were focused on the floor, his face blank and Katsuki silently begged for his love to look at him. One last time where his beautiful, Viridian were on him, before he belonged to someone else. One last time, before the boy was no longer his to love.
As if reading the blond’s mind, Izuku’s gaze lifted to meet his. His eyebrows were pinched together, and his eyes were dull, lacking the usual sparkle Katsuki had grown to love oh-so dearly.
He watched as tears formed in the corners of Izuku’s eyes and it took all of Katsuki’s self-control not to run up there and wipe them away. To tell him it will be okay and hold him close to his chest.
The knight lowered his head, but his eyes remained staring into the green ones of the boy at the alter. He swallowed down the lump in his throat, but despite his efforts to hold back the tears of his own, he couldn’t stop them from forming.
Or
Maybe in a different life he and Izuku could be free to love one another. A life where they didn’t have to hide or live in fear. But for as long as this life lasted — as long as he was a knight, fit to serve and protect the kingdom’s precious prince — such things were merely childish dreams.

Kacchan slides a very familiar letter across the table to him and asks, “What the fuck is this?”
Izuku really feels like he’s about to explode.
Because that letter is possibly the culmination of the biggest feelings he’s ever had: love, and all of it for Kacchan.
Izuku wrote it at thirteen. When he knew that his best friend since diapers would never return the feelings, but Izuku felt like they were so heavy they needed to be shared.
He wrote the letter, poured his aching, crushing tween heart out onto two and a half pages of college ruled notebook paper, and addressed it in his best calligraphy. To: Kacchan. Izuku remembers his thirteen year old self debating before adding on a little explosion sticker.
Now, at seventeen, he’s debating the pros and cons of jumping out of the nearest window.
OR: Izuku writes Katsuki a love letter. 4 years later, Katsuki receives it. Izuku is still very much in love with him, and Katsuki is very much not.
