Shuichi opened his eyes. Almost all of his vision was blinded by white. Some sort of creature was standing in front of him, directly between him and the bear, fur puffed up and growling dangerously. Its face was turned from Shuichi, so it was hard to tell what it was, exactly, especially in those first few confused moments. Eventually, though, he determined that it had to be…
…A dog? No…
Blood dripped from the other side of the beast. It didn't seem deterred, though. If anything, it seemed angrier, dipping low like it was about to pounce. Its ears trained on the bear, its tail puffed out.
The bear didn't strike right away. It huffed, letting out a heavy, tense-sounding breath. After a long moment's pause, it got back down on four legs and turned to leave.
Which left Shuichi with what could only be the Beast of Gévaudan itself.

A mysterious boy arrives in Shuichi's small town shortly before some bloodthirsty animal starts hunting down wildlife in the forest nearby. It calls to mind Shuichi's knowledge of a tragedy made legend through public hysteria.
