Summary
“Why are you here?” He snaps, leaning heavily on his doorframe. There are a hundred answers to his question, each less admissible than the last.
Because Jacques told me it was necessary. Because someone told Jacques to tell me it was necessary. Because I’m the only person besides B who might turn you human. Because I’m the only person besides B who still thinks you’re human. Because you’re brilliant and mad and still so goddamn useful. Because tattoos stay permanent no matter how many fires you start. Because I think you start fires just because you know I’ll be the one to put them out. Because you’re laughably easy to lie to. Because I didn’t kill your father but I might as well have. Because you didn’t kill my brother but given half a chance you would have. Because you loved me for five years and still only hate me a little.
Because I want to be. God help me, I’m here because I want to be.
“We should talk,” is all she says, stepping past him through the door.
[It’s a year before the Baudelaire fire. Kit has always been a very useful volunteer.]

Summary
Five years, two months, and seventeen days after Stan Pines makes the worst mistake of his life, he holds his daughter in his arms, utterly terrified and entirely certain that he’s just found one more person he can’t bear to lose.
Miriam Nadine Pines has her mother's nose, her bubbe’s eyes, her dad’s left hook, and her uncle’s dream demon.
(She could have gone without inheriting the last one.)
Or: A world where Stan’s a little happier, Dipper’s a little warier, Mabel’s going to be maid of honor if it kills her, Bill’s raised himself a shiny new replacement, Tate’s holding one more grudge, and Ford’s got another thing coming.

Summary
“I don’t think that was an adult kiss,” Alexis says carefully as she stares up at Ted’s ceiling. There’s a stain on it from when she tried to make him a birthday cake, back when they were dating. It had gone terribly and she’d tried very hard not to be absolutely mortified at how carefully she’d worked at getting every little thing just right just to fail so miserably. It’s difficult for her, being careful, always has been, but after the broken engagement—okay fine, broken engagements, plural—she’s been trying to be more careful with Ted. He’s not like her other ex-boyfriends. He’s breakable. Human, even.
Ew, some part of Alexis that’s still sunbathing on that nude beach in Santorini cringes. A larger part of her just feels sad. For him, but for her, too.

Summary
Jess wrote her first poem when she was nine years old, staring out of the window of a car listlessly, her trophy bumping against her knees and tearing up her stockings. Her mom had been chattering on and on about another pageant somewhere in Boston and another in Reno and another in Kansas City and another and-- and the clouds were pretty. They looked like they had faces, and Jess, who had already learned how to be tired and sad but not angry, not yet, wrote them a story in her head made up of seven rhyming couplets. She liked it, liked the rhythm of it, liked the way she could make the clouds say things she wasn’t allowed to think. She wrote it down when they got back to the hotel in careful cursive to show Sophie.
Jess doesn’t have that poem anymore. Her mom threw it away and had screamed in Jess’s face when she’d tried to fish it out of the trash. She doesn’t have any of her poems from the last three and a half years either, only the knowledge that they saved her, that an angel saw something in them (in her) that didn’t deserve to burn.
(In which Jess is a poet, Castiel loves poetry almost as much as he loves deviating from The Plan, Dean thinks that his brother might be haunted, and Sam knows he is.)

Summary
In the end, it’s simple. All it takes is one quick, clean swing of his sword and it’s over. The sarcophagus disintegrates, red-gold dust crumbling around him, seeping into the floor of the Labyrinth.
He runs as the room shakes in his former master’s impotent rage. The floor cracks beneath him, the walls tip forward, and the ceiling shakes, plaster raining down like ash. He breathes in a mouthful of that red dust, but he doesn’t have time to retch. He runs like he did when he was seven and his mom was reaching for him, all green-sick eyes and hissed poison, her hands twisting into claws, like he did when he was fourteen and the small weight of Annabeth in his arms was the only thing keeping him from looking back to where Thalia fell, like he did when he was seventeen and a dragon was looking to make a meal of him.
He makes it out of the room right before it collapses. Of course he does. Luke’s always been good at running.
[In which Kronos may be dead, but the revolution isn't.]

Summary
Can I get off without reliving history and let every echo just sing to itself?
Can I move on without knowing specifics while memories hum like a hive shaken out?
It’s a mirror, holy terror, taking focus off the horizon.
It’s a chorus reaching for us, swarming locusts wherever you go.
It’s a siren, muffled crying, breaking me down soft and slow.
It’s a diamond, my whole life is open just outside the door.
It’s a mirror down.- Words:

Summary
Not the peace of a cease-fire,
not even the vision of the wolf and the lamb,
but rather
as in the heart when the excitement is over
and you can talk only about a great weariness.
I know that I know how to kill,
that makes me an adult.
And my son plays with a toy gun that knows
how to open and close its eyes and say Mama.
A peace
without the big noise of beating swords into ploughshares,
without words, without
the thud of the heavy rubber stamp: let it be
light, floating, like lazy white foam.
A little rest for the wounds—
who speaks of healing?
(And the howl of the orphans is passed from one generation
to the next, as in a relay race:
the baton never falls.)Let it come
like wildflowers,
suddenly, because the field
must have it: wildpeace.- Words:
