Summary

Summary
A simple telling of a king and his jester going about their days.
Or is it? :)Pure Vanilla watched as the official came closer, bearing the crown that had always been meant for him. He’d just always assumed it had been meant for some older, hopefully wiser version of himself far into the future rather than the inexperienced youth of today. But some eventualities couldn’t be put off any longer.
I don’t even have time to grieve my father’s passing.
The crown was within arm’s reach, resting on a velvet cushion still held aloft by the official. It was an ornate thing. A golden brim of curving, round-tipped spires, and at their center, a magnificent sapphire cut in the same shape as their kingdom’s emblem. A dome of royal navy ballooned out from the brim, cardinal directions adorned in gold diamonds.
Pure Vanilla thought it to be too ornate, its likeness comparable to what a child might imagine rather than the genuine article that signified a monarch’s right to rule.

Summary
During the final battle for the SoulJam, a spell gone wrong hits both owners of the soul jam, binding them to each other. Pure Vanilla still couldn't bring themselves to seal Shadow Milk back into the silver tree, so influenced by the bond, the ancient brings home the beast. Shadow Milk wants to exploit the bond to corrupt Pure Vanilla back into a Truthless recluse, and Pure Vanilla is convinced there is good in the other and wants to redeem him.
They both work together to dispel the magic, and as time passes, things start to change, and the animosity that previously controlled their relationship blooms into something warmer.
But, as was starting to become customary, something goes wrong

Shadow Milk’s eyes darted around the room obliviously as he dug a thumb into his palm, framing his thoughts like a confused student trying to clarify a difficult topic in a lesson. “Have you ever fantasized about… not being the one on bottom? Being the one ruining instead of being ruined? Plowing instead of getting plowed?”
…Though, those words belonged nowhere near a classroom.

Lately, he had noticed that there was some lingering tension laced between the normal fluid and theatric acts of said dusky-haired pastry, what was once a snarky smirk now replaced with an unsure furrow of brows and averted eyes.
If that would happen, he would always gently squeeze his hand in reassurance, guiding him to a secluded spot and ask what was wrong, only to receive a dismissive wave of a hand with a badly masking smile.
If his days were less busy, then he would usually spend the day with the immortal cookie, and if they were suspended in threads on a wall by political meetings, then he would bombard them with as much affection as he would be allowed to give.
And of course, he wanted to understand what was bothering him.
