In 1987, Timothy Dugan released a book of memoirs; an account that followed his travels and adventures with the military group known as the Howling Commandos from 1943 to 1945. The short novel has been praised as a “beautiful and tragic retelling of history” that offers insight to America’s most famous, beloved, and mysterious group of soldiers. It has also come under some scrutiny as historians and critics debate whether Dugan’s novel is actually a work of fiction and not a true account of events.
