Summary
Nick was tired of feeling trapped in the comfortable life his parents were crafting around him, caged by his responsibilities as the eldest "daughter". In a moment of recklessness, he ran away from home, out into the wild west with nothing but a pack and rifle he'd never used.
John was tired of being alone, though he'd never admit it. His old gang had been gone for years, and despite the changing times, he still faced sneers for his assumed position and the colour of his skin. Life felt dull without company, even if his thieving never really stopped.
Maybe they were exactly what each other needed, but they were woefully unprepared for what that meant.

Summary
The man snorted a derisive breath through his nostrils. “Peachy,” he said with a crooked grin, and despite the humor, there was something dangerous—feral—about that smirk. Maybe it was the rugged jawline or the mangled scars, the blood slowly dripping from the split in his lip or the finger tapping at the butt of his gun; but Roy’s instincts sparked aflame. He needed this man. He was the one.
Before Roy could fully think it through, he barreled ahead and asked, “You got any plans for the next month?”
The man arched an eyebrow, his gaze narrowing as he stared straight at Roy. “No,” he slowly said, the word careful and drawn out with his wariness. “Sounds like you might, though.”
--
In which Roy hires Jason to accompany him on a trip to pick up an expensive stallion; and while sleeping beneath the stars and hunting rattlesnakes, Roy sees a side to this rough, rugged man that irrevocably stirs Roy's heart.

Summary
Eight years have passed since Blackwater, Saint Denis, and the fall of the van der Linde gang. The survivors are trying to make a life for themselves – some moving on to nobler pursuits, some circling back like carrion birds to the scores they left behind.
And outside a town called Purgatory, West Elizabeth, a man wakes up without a scrap of memory or a name, haunted by a black wolf and a golden stag.

Summary
In most towns out west, they’re just stories. Devils and ghosts and other such spirits are talked ‘bout ‘round campfires or over drinks, tall tales to spook those who don’t know better than to believe them. In most towns, a dead animal or a missin’ child is generally the work of coyotes. In most towns, rules can be broken, laws can be ignored, if you’ve got brains enough or bullets enough to keep from gettin’ strung up or shot down.
Lily Lake ain’t one of those towns.- Language:
