Chris leaned into his brother’s side with an arm wrapped around Martin’s, fingers gripping his sleeve and a protective scowl on his face as he watched the police escort the vengeful husband away in handcuffs.
Chris had wanted to press charges, but he had elected to leave the decision in the hands of his bighearted brother, since he had been the one to get jumped.
Martin had easily forgiven his assailants, much to the disgruntled younger brother’s chagrin, stating that he wanted to keep things civil between the marine biologists and the locals as they would be returning to the same place next year.
“Besides,” he had said with a sad smile, “it’d be bad news for both of them if he got locked up. He’s the breadwinner.”
The guide had later sent in a notice of resignation (with an awkward apology) and the brothers met with no further complications for the rest of their trip.
The elder brother huffed and shook his head, looking away from the searching eyes.
“I shouldn’t have let you come with me.” he said guiltily, glaring at the monitors on the wall.
“The second I got you out of that hole I should’ve sent you back to the Tortuga. Now look at you - look what I let that jerk do!”
Chris shook his head, tugging Martin’s hands. “Nonono! Wasn’t your fault!”
Martin sighed and briefly withdrew one hand to swipe the tears off his face, not looking at his brother.
“Sure feels like it was. I’m the oldest - I’m supposed to keep you safe. I made a bad call letting you stay out there. You shouldn’t have had to protect me.”
The younger Kratt growled in protest, tugging more insistently until his brother finally looked at him and saw the disapproving scowl on his face.
True, Martin was the oldest and was supposed to be the one calling the shots, but Chris was as much to blame as he was - breaking his promise to be careful and defying the order to run away when they were being surrounded.
The brunet deliberately lifted their joined hands.
“Team.” he rasped.
Martin frowned. “Bro-”
Chris stubbornly shook his head, doing his best to squeeze Martin’s hand as he firmly repeated, “Team.”
The elder Kratt held the blazing, chestnut gaze a moment - the brothers staring each other down, just as they had done earlier that day.
Finally he blinked, forfeiting the match and heaved a sigh, gracing the younger Kratt with a reluctant grin.
“Right. We’re a team. Share the credit and the blame, yeah?”
Chris nodded with a small, satisfied smile, his eyes looking more noticeably tired with each consecutive blink.
Martin reached out to smooth his hair back, stroking a thumb under his eye as he smiled fondly.
“You should get some more rest, kiddo.”
The drooping chestnut eyes opened fully at that, the hand in Martin’s moving up to grasp his wrist, tugging him closer.
The blond-haired brother obligingly leaned in to hear whatever his sibling wanted to say, surprised when the dark head lifted from the pillow to touch their foreheads together instead.
“Glad you’re okay.” the green-clad brother whispered in relief.
Martin smiled crookedly, reaching around to cradle his sibling’s head to reduce the strain on his neck, pressing his lips to Chris’s brow.
“Ditto. Love you, Chris.” he whispered gratefully.
Chris smiled, humming in sleepy reply.
Martin gently eased his head back down on the pillow, slipping his hand out from beneath it and carding his fingers through the dark hair.
“Just rest. I’ll be here when you wake up, buddy.”
The younger brother cracked an eye open, smirking slightly.
“Softy.” he teased, the word sounding altogether too fond to be mistaken for mockery.
Martin chuckled, bringing the smaller hand up to his face and resting his cheek against it.
The younger Kratt absentmindedly stroked a thumb across his brother's skin, wiping away the remaining traces of tears while the elder settled his elbows on the edge of the bed, closed his eyes and leaned gratefully into the touch.
No words would ever sufficiently describe how blessed Martin felt in that moment.

Earth felt himself shudder as another flash of pain spiked through his body. What were the Earthlings doing anyways? Why did they need resources so bad?
Irritated, Earth let his mind wander to his Earthlings. He could feel it. He could feel them.
He could feel people dancing, hear them singing. He could feel as they raced, fought, cried.. He could feel them running, swimming and even reproducing- erm, gross.
He could feel the drills penetrating his surface.. Hear doctors screaming medical junk, planes soaring through the skies, children crying, roars of animals, the ticklish walk of bugs, fire and smoke, humans building, rage rooms, glass shattering doors slammed people falling animals hibernating waves smashing trees being cut ambulances, sirens, drowning crying bleeding screaming jumping lifting running singing dancing stop please boats sinking birds chirping cars speeding caves collapsing animals stumbling icebergs melting houses collapsing humans cheering football cricket volleyball axes smoke it’s overwhelming Was he shaking? Spinning.. Head spinning.. Blurry vision.. Ears.. Hair.. Head, pain..? When did I start gripping my head? Buses cars planes trains cranes building shouting hiding screaming crime Stop please stop Too much.. Its too much
Sound travelled to his ears, but it was only received as a dizzying, piercing loudness that shot pain through his ear and right into his head. Everything was so loud.. His surface so loud.. Earth tried to move, to get away but his body shook and trembled harshly, he was.. on the floor..? When did that happen..? Everything buzzed, light overwhelming, everything spinning as he struggled to perceive his surroundings, light overwhelming overwhelming overwhelmed overstimulated Too many eyes too many hands.. Piano, rockets, Computers, Lights, Roads, Cities, shaking, shaking..? Pain, wind kicking pain burning..?
Couldn’t breathe.. Was he breathing at all? A strong burning sensation filled his lungs, filled his stomach, filled his head..Oh my god what was happening to him?! No no panic panic help stop please panic, panicking stress fear panic Was he gripping his head tighter..? Hide.. Hide just disappear just disappear.. Invisible. Invisible.
Earth covered his ears with his hands, his fingers wrapping around his head clenching painfully tight. He had collapsed onto the floor, just sitting there, shaking as he struggled to breathe, hyperventilating. His body tweaked with panic, with anxiety as his body fidgeted restlessly. Everything itched. Everything hurt. It was loud. So, so loud. Earth was sweating, his breath short and shallow as hot flushes throbbed in his face.

Earth!” He was interrupted by Phobos’s voice, and when Earth looked at him, he was pointing at him, a look of excitement on his face that Earth knew only spelled trouble for him. “We need swords!”
Earth blinked. “Swords?”
“To defeat the dragon! And save the princess!”
Mars made a sound above him, shifting within his hands. “Am I the princess?”
Or; Phobos and Deimos have heard too many fairytales.Earth opened and then closed his mouth. “…You need to be given the mission,” he repeated, dryly. Above him, he heard a tiny laugh from Mars that was immediately muffled.
“By the king!” Deimos lifted his sword in the air.
Earth blinked hard—and then he resisted the urge to roll his eyes and opened his mouth. “LUNA! COME HERE!” He frankly had no idea where Luna had disappeared to, but he had a funny feeling that unless they followed the way that Phobos and Deimos wanted to play the game, they’d be stuck. After another moment, he dropped the crown onto the couch and readjusted his grip on Mars, letting him stand on the couch beside him.
He really didn’t feel like holding Mars above his head for however long it took for Luna to find them—not that it would really hurt. It was like holding a pen in the air.
Deimos turned and started fighting Phobos with their swords, the two of them trading words and blows in the same second… not that Earth really tried to decipher whatever they were talking about. He bent down and retrieved the crown, turning to place it atop Mars’s head. “Here you go, princess,” he snickered. “Your crown.”
Mars just gave him a deadpan look, not responding otherwise.
Luna appeared in the doorway—his eyes darted between Phobos and Deimos fighting each other and then towards him, and he blew out a harsh sigh. “What do you want, Earth?”
Earth jumped off the couch and materialized another crown, placing it onto Luna’s head. “You’re the king now. Give your knights,” he gestured towards Phobos and Deimos, “their mission to rescue the princess from the horrible dragon!” His voice trailed off into snickers at the end, and he bit down hard on his bottom lip to restrain his laughter.
Luna blinked. “The princess?”
Instead of answering, Earth ran straight back towards the couch and reached out, fastening his hands at Mars’s waist to throw him over his shoulder. The crown clattered onto the ground. Phobos and Deimos stopped fighting, and Deimos pointed towards him, grinning wide. “The princess is being kidnapped!”
He distantly heard Luna’s voice. “Mars is the princess?”
Earth wrapped his arm against the back of Mars’s thighs. “I’m stealing the princess,” he announced, unable to help his laughter. “If you want to save him, you’ll have to stop me!” He jumped straight back onto the couch as Phobos and Deimos waved their swords in the air.
“Luna! You have to give us the mission!”
Luna adjusted the crown on his head and just stared for a moment before sighing. “Uh... Knights…”
“Say our names!”
“Knights… Phobos and Deimos…?” Luna looked like the words pained him to say. “You need to save the princess from the dragon. I’m assigning you to this… mission? Bring him back alive.”
Both Phobos and Deimos lifted their swords in the air. “Yeah! We’re going to save the princess!”
“Wouldn’t I technically be a prince?” Mars muttered, the words barely audible.

“Wow Earth, that’s quite the infodump. Do ya think that there could be some way of helping Saturn with remembering the other moons?” Titan brings back the main point of him coming here to talk to them. Now knowing all this new stuff about The Earth makes him admire Earth a bit more for knowing so much about the moons that he cares a lot about, even if those same moons don’t like him all that much because of Saturn’s favouritism.
