Summary
Kafka in his kaiju form is one of the defense force’s strongest assets. He along with Narumi Gen and all the rest of the captains of their respective divisions. But if something happens, they can’t be everywhere at once.
They can’t protect their weaker teammates if they’re targeted. Or if a civilian gets caught in the cross fire—- or worse: the intelligent kaiju using innocent people as hostages.
Kafka dreads the future. He predicts that an event will happen that would tilt the world on its head, where kaiju creeps out of every dark crevice like rodents. There will be a time where kaiju will launch a full blown invasion to colonize as much land as possible. If that happens, with how things are working right now, countless people will die. Even civilians in their trusted protective shelter might perish when the apocalypse happens. And Kafka has every intention to protect as many people from that as possible.

“I came here for a lucky item, nanodayo,” Midorima blurted.
“Is that so?” Kuroko blinked.
“A week from today, my lucky items are worn out boxing gloves.”
An awkward silence drew out while Kuroko connected the dots.
“Did Midorima-kun come into an illegal fighting ring to ask dangerous fighters to donate their gloves?” Kuroko asked, his blue eyes were blank but the stare was judgmental.
“I have tried other methods! This was my only option. I didn’t know anyone else who boxed and all of the athletic clubs were vacant for a training camp!”
“Please take my gloves, Midorima-kun, before you get yourself into more trouble."

Vincent made his way over, crawling on the edge of the bed with an arm over the human’s body to brace against the soft mattress, pushing the girl down on the bed and effectively caging her below him. He held the girl’s arm with the palm facing up and nearly in front of the girl’s face.
Vincent pressed the arm against his closed mouth and calmly took a sniff, his body responding to the sweetness of the girl’s scent. The same sweetness reminded him of the white mask’s blood that he encountered. Annoyed, Vincent clicked his tongue before biting the girl’s forearm, pissed that he was reminded of those pain-in-the-asses that he couldn’t kill.

Hoshina laughs, a smile on his face. Always the smile.
Kafka never wants that smile to disappear.
“Okonogi-chan worries too much. I’m fine.” Hoshina says, the grimace on his face suggesting otherwise however.
“Will all due respect, vice-captain, I disagree with you.” Kafka says and gently lowers Hoshina onto the ground, keeping an ear out for the honju. The last thing he wants is for it to sneak up on them. “What happened?”

Hoshina drops out of contact and Kafka absolutely does not race after him.

It is difficult, to say the least, to have proven evidence against your core values, and to have these beliefs uprooted so suddenly in the form of your half-demon group leader, scared and panicked and reaching for you, and then fearless and undefined on stage fighting with a part of her that should have made her evil.
Years of learned hatred are difficult to undo in a single night.
But Mira is trying.
This is all to say that when the Saja Boys shows up on their penthouse balcony, mere weeks after Huntrix had seemingly killed them, worse for wear, but terribly alive, Mira does not attack them…
…immediately, that is.
OR:
The Saja Boys, sans Jinu, move in with the Huntrix girls and Mira learns how very much human demons can be, all while denying her developing feelings for two certain pink haired idiots.

Kafka fixated on the bloodlust in that young man’s eyes. He was used to being teased by the vice-captain, and pitied by him like a lost puppy. He considered Kafka nothing more than a comically desperate man with nothing to lose anymore. That smug little smile really pissed him off sometimes. Being given a chance at the defense force was his only saving grace. But words are useless to describe what Kafka truly wants.
The truth re-enters his mind, “He was prepared to kill me.”
And yet, if he could get that close to Hoshina again, feel that warm body up against his… Touch him; his skin. Dragging a thumb from his cheek to his soft lips. Lacing fingers up into his deep lavender locks. Pulling the two of them even closer…

Summary
Kaiju No.8 and No.9 are bound by a cruel destiny—forever entangled as enemies. One lives, the other survives. One dies, the other follows. Hibino Kafka realizes this truth far too late, the weight of it crushing him in ways he cannot undo.
Did the others see it, too? He hopes not. The thought of their faces twisted in grief—because of him—is unbearable. The guilt coils around his heart, suffocating him, until silence feels like the only choice. So Kafka shuts his mouth, even as the truth claws at him from within, keeping his suffering locked away.
Perhaps when he’s gone—when his body finally fails—there might still be some use for him. His kaiju form could become a weapon, a tool, something to help them fight and survive. A blade, a gun, something they can hold onto.
Because even in death, a selfish part of him hopes they’ll remember. That some fragment of him will linger, not as a tragedy, but as something they can wield to keep moving forward.
It’s a small, desperate wish—but it’s all he has left.
